what a feeling seeing the first pinheads!

this is a 250 cc small grow kit of Golden Teachers.

just followed the very simple instructions provided.

currently it's day 12, there are 3 clear pinheads, and it seems like more are about to pop out.

the instructions said it'll take 10 to 20 days for all the heads to come out.

current routine - once a day, in the morning
1. open the bag and ventilate for about two minutes
2. mist the inside walls of the plastic bag with lukewarm water

anything else i should do?

i'd take care not to mist the top layer or let it dry either because the quality of pin sets you will get depends on how untouched and healthy that fragile top layer stays during the fruiting period etc, and when harvesting i'd try to cut or spin the fruits in a very gentle way to avoid disrupting the layer

i'm using a piece of kitchen paper to try and protect the top layer from the mist, not the best and most precise solution tho.

what if instead of misting i just put a wet piece of cloth inside (next to the cake), or a small cup of water?

wet cloth is not a bad idea unless it grows mold, but using paper to prevent mist from settling on top of it is a great idea, also you could maybe put hydrated perlite or something below the kit in your bag to maintain moisture etc

What i have found to work well is put cakes in a container of some kind with wet coco coir. You hydrate and pasteurize at the same time by placing a coco brick and 4.25x the weight of the coco in plain boiling water inside a bucket with the lid on. Once it cools down you can place it in around the cakes it will maintain the perfect humidity and it's very difficult for mold and things to grow in it.

You can also do what they call a "water tub" and place the cake on like a baking rack inside a container with a bit of water sitting in the bottom under but not touching the cake.

Ime the coco is the better way to go if you happen to have some

They get big fast near the end, definitely a great feeling to harvest your own shrooms 👍
Yes, what a satisfaction waking up and seeing they doubled their size!

Question for more experienced people.
Is it normal that the color is getting yellowish, and there are those darker vertical stripes?

When you say Pinhead I think of

I'm not a horror film fan but I don't mind the Hellraiser series

I did several genetics at a time and I saw that on some and not others. Some turn more blue when cut than others but it really doesn't seem to correlate much to potency.

Some say that it could be a bacterial infection of some kind but like I said personally I think it's genetic variation cuz whatever bacteria i had around was on all my shrooms lol

Best time to pick them is just as that veil under the cap starts to tear, you can choose to wait for spores if you want some of those.. you only have a few hours once the veil goes for the caps to spread out and sporulate. It's cool to see lol but they do say that potency will not increase after the veil breaks

Happy tripping brother

it's insane how much they've been growing in the past 24 hours.. the biggest one is now 13cm tall.

i think tomorrow it's time to harvest, i'll check if the veil start to tear or not. i'm afraid it might happen at night tho. if i harvest a bit earlier, would it be a problem?

Nope, no problem at all. Like I say the consensus among the shroom growers in their shroom forum is that after a certain point they're just getting bigger but not adding any more active alkaloids. In my own experience they'll start getting a little soft and squishy if you leave them longer, still fine but my preference is to harvest relatively early.

I can only speculate how much moisture will be left in your cake after you harvest, it looks like a brf style cake to me with vermiculite, what you can and should do after harvesting is soak that thing in water for at least a good 12hrs then roll it in fresh vermiculite or coco. As always I recommend the coco.. I did that with my first cakes that came from all in one kits and I got a whole nother round of shrooms.
