Freebasing Chaliponga with Calcium Hydroxide

Migrated topic.

I have read that the dmt and 5-meo-dmt alkaloids in virola resin can be freebased using calcium hydroxide.
Would calcium hyrdroxide also freebase alkaloids in chaliponga or other plants? For smoking?

I was thinking of making a passionflower leaf and chaliponga smoking blend, would the calcium hydroxide freebase the alkaloids in both of those plants? Or does it only work for some alkaloids?

Please excuse me if this is a dumb question. I'm afraid I am somewhat of a ghetto chemist, so much of this is confusing to me.

Calcium hydroxide is a strong enough base to freebase all alkaloids. The problem is that it is too strong for some alkaloids and can destroy them (such as psilocin and bufotenine). It should be fine for harmala alkaloids, and is fine for DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. But when using it with some phenolic alkaloids like psilocin or bufotenine, you need to make sure not to use too much or they will be destroyed.

4:1 of chaliponga to calcium hydroxide should be quite a lot of excess. That's enough for Yopo. Yopo contains more alkaloids than chaliponga. I think using a pH meter or pH papers would be the best way to go. For your purposes since you are doing this for smoking, and not an A/B extraction, you’ll need to freebase 99% of the alkaloids. For an A/B, you only need to freebase about 50% or so and you’ll still get nearly all the alkaloids because of the many pulls done. But for smoking, you need near 99% freebased so the pH needs to be the pKa of the alkaloids plus 2 to get 99% freebased, 3 to get 99.9%. No one seems to know the pKa of 5-MeO-DMT, but it’s probably between 7 and 9. Assuming the highest likely pKa of 9, that means pH 10 would freebase 90% and 11 would freebase 99%. Calcium hydroxide can reach a pH of 12.4. That would be enough to freebase more than 99.9%. There’s no need to go higher and besides these pKa freebasing “laws” are not completely accurate, they are more of a guide line.
