Freeze separating d-limonene from fumaric acid saturated water

Migrated topic.

Say, can SWIM just freeze a glass jar of d-limonene and DMT containing fumaric acid water, in order to simply pour out the d-limonene for separation? Or will freezing force the alkaloids out of the water or some such thing?

I believe this would work. Even if the low temperatures decrease fumarate's solubility in water, the crystals will simply precipitate and be trapped within the water layer as it freezes. Unless present in a basic solution, the alkaloids should have no inclination to return to the NPS.

Anyways, I currently have a glass in the freezer. Will see how it goes.

75ml limo + 20ml FASW
4 pulls, glasses left in freezer ~2 hr
Absence of precipitation upon addition of FASI to remaining limo.
Nice thinking. :)

edit: removed pictures

Mhm, lack of precipitation indicates no actives are present in the limonene after the FASW salting/freeze separation. Worked like a charm....yield was nice little FASW discs. :)

I think if you read through Armor_fati's extraction thread (not in the wiki yet I don't think) this is what was referred to by this post.

SWIM will be amending a process in which the FASW/limonene mixture is frozen to precip most of the fumaric acid out of solution, as well as to allow most of the limonene to be poured off (since the FASW is frozen solid). SWIM just uses a gravy separator after that to get the little bit that's left separated by pouring most of it out of the gravy separator, then pipetting the rest out of the corner. SWIM prefers nontoxic methods all around.

Nice to see the pictures to get a visual on it. That always really helps to clarify things.

Out of curiosity is there a specific temp range that is best for this method? Or can the freezer be at any normal use setting?

Great, perfect. Thank you all for checking in to this. SWIM actually gave it a shot a few weeks ago, although he used vinegar to salt out from limonene, and didn't understand that DMT-acetate is a sticky goo that's very difficult to work with (it was his first extraction). Thus, he hasn't really tried the results yet and wasn't sure if they were any good.

I personally prefer working with acetate when aiming for a smokable product.
It can get a bit sticky, but whether preparing changa or coating a screen for a sandwich, acetate is quite tasty.
Jimjam yumminess. :)

I suppose one might also freeze a mimosa/lye water mixture to separate naptha. I don't know if that would affect yeild. The dmt might sink, I don't know.

Eden why do you prefer acetate for smoking? It seems most people prefer big ultra white pure crystals.

Full spectrum deliciousness....something about the jungle. Big crystals simply don't have the same appeal to me, even when used for changa.
I used to fumarate->freebase for changa and straight spice, but following a prompt from endlessness, did an acetate conversion for a well experimented with changa blend.
I am fully converted....acetate was my first experience, and it will continue to be my favorite. :)

And yes, the crystals would likely sink and become embedded in the lye layer if freeze separation was used with naphtha.
