Hello & a little account of my harmala journey so far

I would recommend going with a regular hot water extraction, continued with waiting for particles to settle and then decanting. What is also important for me is the addition of some spices that you like. I've been adding cardamom to the teas with great results. Let your taste and imagination guide you. The roasted seeds will work very well in a recipe combined with spices, gives lovely oriental taste and effects. Since you've got lots of seeds to work with there is no loss in playing around with them.
Having taken mini-doses of rue for approximately 19 days in a row, I decided to take a break for a few weeks. However, the idea of combining rue with spices has been in the back of my mind, and I finally gave it a go today.

I used around 1tbsp of loose chai herbs (ginger, cardamom, and such) along with 1tbsp of cocoa nibs, 1tbsp of honey, and 1g of ground/toasted rue. The resulting tea was extremely delicious, and seems to be hitting me, as I type this.

Depending on how I feel later in the day, I may have another cup. Thanks for the suggestion! It feels like a great approach and is fully congruent with my tea-loving ways.

Anyway, I'd like to thank you, Iff and everyone participating in this thread, it really inspired me to connect with this plant once again.
I will start a 3 week plant dieta with it in December, after having tried all 3 batches I have, and I'm very much looking forward to it!

You are welcome. Curious to know if you went ahead with your 3 week plant dieta plan and if yes, how's it?

Just droppin in here to share that I have been experimenting with different quantities of powdered seeds taken in a fasted state and I have found 5 grams to be a sweet spot for me. I have found the effects to be more prominent after a couple of hours and then there is a profound stillness. I have also noticed/felt an emptiness - not the hunger kind but more of a physical nature in my stomach region and other certain bodily sensations that I have noticed during mushroom experiences. On a regular day if I feel the need to take harmalas, I stick to 1/4 tsp of powdered seeds taken with some water and if it's raining and all gardening plans are cancelled for the day, I can go for 5 grams which I haven't weighed but roughly calculated to be what 1tsp amounts to.

Getting to know and working with a plant this way has been amazing.

The rue man doesn't limit his rue plant photography to the harvesting season.

Been away for a while, I actually got locked out, forgetting my password. Thanks for letting me back in!

Here are a few photos from my spring travels of this year.

First one includes Salvia absconditiflora between two rue plants. Last one is Artemisia taurica.

Some summer encounters
in the central plains of iran and i believe even Pakistan /Afghanistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan ... the p.harmala bush grows wild and on a very vast scale, almost like the wild cannabis populations of northwestern Himalayas and the lower plains

these days most of the world has become farmland or significantly altered but if you consider the sheer abundance of these major psychoactive plants on such a vast scale its pretty difficult to believe the use of these plants can be traced back to only couple thousand years at most

these may have been as old as the differentiation of human populations across the world, just how different climates and food differentiated humans from the early homos it would be difficult to separate the formation of worldviews

fundamental cultural lens through which those populations inhabiting very different parts of the world, without considering the role of these wild and abundant major psychoactive plants/fungi

Hi good fellas. I wanted to update you guys on my rue journey chapter of 2026 season.

A quick recap on the history - I had been intimately allied with one strain of rue for fifteen years and believed it is the most special rue in the world. Let's call it original strain, os for short. It was potent, and had many other qualities which I used to perceive as an indivisible package - loving/compassionate, light and euphoric (for those who understand music, mixolydian was it's favorite tonality), gentle in spirit (not a harsh scolding voice like some rues can be), connecting to the self and emotions, "divine." These were the good properties. The weaknesses, I acknowledged them later/recently in my journey. I had been aware of the weaknesses from the start, but had taken them as the defects of rue as a whole/general species. I was wrong.

This strain grows right in the middle of a metropolitan city, in a sanctuary surrounded by the city, but also heavily visited by the locals. And three years ago, something strange happened - it produced much less seeds which turned out ot be strangely weak. It shattered my world. I had been seeing it as my unshakeable spiritual home, a helper force in life which will always have my back. When the same thing happened the next year, I had to accept the fact that I had to break out of my small world and explore what is out there. It was not easy psychologically, but also I didn't have the means - a good car suitable for serious travelling yet.

Well, just at the end of last year's rue season, the car manifested, and my long loong travels started. I searched in neighboring provinces to my os's region, and two strains caught my attention, one seducing me from first encounter to ally for long term use. They were both gentle and potent. The first one was too mellow/static for my taste, but the second one was the opposite - a full on expansive and stimulating euphoria, extremely musical and very uniquely connected to the sky. It is a harmine dominant strain, which is still unique in my explorations. It was an ordeal to switch my spiritual home from my fifteen years os. But I made it and I was generally very happy despite some aspects of the os missing. I call it the sky strain. I was astonished at how (experientially) clean it is, and how it always leaves you in a very good and practically empowered place. Practicality is also still a unique trait of this strain for me. What was missing was deep inner immersion and emotional depth.

Then this year's season came. And my appetite for exploration was not yet satisfied. I had marked the most sacred spots in the country, that at the same time had the conditions to produce very potent seeds. I cannot share about all the places and strains I found, they were many, and my perception/understanding of rue made it's likely greatest expansion and maturation step. Getting to know many strains, allying them for a while, then eliminating them in accordance with inner guidance is an arduous process. I made a sort of map of rue characters according to geography, and saw that what İ used to take as a unique strain with nothing alike out there (my os) was just one combination of basic energetic threads (/genetic characteristics) spread through a geographically wider (vast) area.

And this time I designated two new strains as very special and worthy of long term alliance.

One I call Mother - deeply personal, deeply connective to emotions, and an infinite ocean of motherly compassion and love. Once again astonishingly clean, but centered in the heart, leaving you in an emotionally crystalline state, like pure water.

The other, I call the Mammoth strain because it gave me visions of mammoths in my first eating fresh wild seeds sessions, and it fits because it is the most grounded and heaviest seeds I have ever encountered. Now this one might as well be called the King, because I honestly believe it is the supreme rue strain on this planet. First of all potency wise, it is like the azurescens of rues - the most extreme high potency İ have ever seen. A tea of 5g by itself, with nothing else added, destroys me. After spending one year with a harmine dominant strain, I found myself drinking the most harmaline heavy strain imaginable. Yet with all that potency it is extemely contained and intelligent, gives (shows or tells) you exactly what you need and no random rue experiences, which is also very new to me. My os was quite random and unrefined in the content it gave you, and I was working around it by mixing it with russian olive and having a very strict ceremonial protocol which involved not taking the experiential content very seriously but just singing and praying and focusing on the ripened truthful insights in the days following the experience. The mammoth strain opens what feels like a fully Universal and objective energy field and consciousness, like the highest perception and consciousness. My os was like a personal and subjective garden sanctuary. The Mother is also vast, but personal. And visually, the Mammoth strain seems to have no limits. It just feels extemely rich in all aspects.

So... Now I've been dieting it for a while and just very recently I have felt like I have completed the first step of allying this strain, and my spiritual home has effectively moved. I feel the highest confidence in me, and it's not just from recognizing that I have the most authentic and powerful medicine with me. It's like I am carrying the Sun inside me.

In other news, I have been studying the local sage species that I keep writing about (salvinorin a containing Salvia absconditiflora). I have made progress with it this year as well. I also discovered different strains and started geographically mapping it out, and so far have identified one strain that stands out in being clean, potent, and intelligent. I managed to preserve its core potency after drying and started experimenting with mixing it with the mammoth rue. Somehow quidding or eating turned out weaker than drinking a tea.

And as a tea drank on top of mammoth rue - it is beyond beautiful. First of all it works as light for rue perfectly. The visuals and insights are amplified very clearly. It's a different kind of light - as salvia lovers know, it is a teacher of subtle energies. DMT is cosmic and otherworldly, salvias are deep and emotional. It brings a seamless connection to all that is, and the euphoria and deep realignment it brings is really something. The spiritual opening can feel scary because it feels so deep, but everything is directed toward deep love and well being. This sage seems to especially be focussed on feminine/motherly love and compassion.

It seems to be giving the most effective results in the domain of feeling grounded and focussed in daily life, as a person diagnosed with ADHD.

And this year's medicine exploration and expansion is not over yet. I'm scheduled to go to the mushroom land of this country and come back with a good stock of liberty caps and amanitas. No rush to experience anything, but just to secure all the medicine I have been called to for many years. I would first need to complete my sage study/diet before tasting any mushrooms. Libs are also meant to be light for rue, but amanitas will be standalone medicine, and I look forward to properly dieting and meeting these spirits when the time comes. I have some previous experience with both, but the paradigm that the mammoth seeds has brought me to (/the point my own spiritual journey has come to) has made my approach much deeper, much more serious, much more shamanic.

That's it for now, brothers and sisters. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up for my journey. Love to all, thank you for all the sharings and content. I may not be very active in writing but I read and appreciate everything. And thank you for creating and maintaining a place which feels meaningful to share this venture.

🌞
