How [inconvenienced] am i if i can't access acetone?

Acetone was banned to the public in the country where i live, am i just [screwed] to most acetone extractions?(ie, salvinorin) is it worth it to make my own or could i just use ethanol or others for most?

There are other solvents that work... IDK specifically if you were to make pure crystals but you can extract with chloroform.

Yea some things I can't buy outright but you can distill or extract or make your own chemicals some times. I've read you can make chloroform with bleach and isopropanol but IDK if true I only see acetone being used. Research first so you don't harm yourself.
Here ethyl acetate and toulene are banned but you can purify nail polish and paint thinner without much trouble. There are also many other substitutes if you search or test enough.

As you probably know, acetone can be prepared by the dry distillation of, e.g., calcium acetate - that's more or less how it got its name. [Acetone means "daughter of vinegar".] Given enough ingenuity, most common reagents and solvents will be accessible to the determined chemist - that's how we got this far, after all - but it does get rather labour-intensive/time-consuming.

Yes - the isopropanol first gets oxidised to acetone anyhow. It just means you need one extra molar amount of bleach for the reaction. Ethanol can also be used, although the reaction may be less efficient. Keywords: haloform reaction.

PS - What kind of lame government bans acetone? Pathetic!

Im sorry about the foul language, it won't happen again.
and yeah, i got some eggshells and marine shells dissolving in vinegar now, might also try some haloform reaction for chloroform, since i would also like to extract caffeine, thanks again.

Ps: The Argentinian one in, i believe, 2018, some of the regulated(22% max generally) or straight up prohibited chemicals for the public are: Red phosphorus, Hydrochloric acid, Sulfuric acid, Hydroiodic acid, Potassium permanganate, Toluene, DMC, Chloroform, Nitroethane, Nitromethane, Ethyl ether, Benzaldehyde, Acetone, Phenylacetone & Methyl ethyl ketone to just name a few.
Maybe the new president will see how the government office responsible is useless and disband it since anyone with a basic understanding of chemistry can make them with a bit of extra work.

Are sure that it's all and any quantities of those substances that are prohibited? Isn't that massively inconvenient to people trying to get stuff done in a wide range of business? Most of the things you've listed correspond to U.N. listed, watched/restricted chemicals/precursors but several of the more 'innocuous' solvents have, or at least used to have, fairly sizeable permitted amounts below which reporting or registration requirements don't apply. All the same, I would be at all surprised to find out that your government has banned stuff for being too useful, considering the way certain European countries have legislated on chemical products in recent years. [Ah, I see "straight up prohibited for the general public", indeed ]

you can buy some of these at 22% like hydrochloric acid(muriatic) or sodium hydroxide(22% too) but, Acetone is straight up prohibited to the public, big companies can buy them with permits and justification of everything
