How We Smoked DMT – Our Experience & Recommendations

 Background
Before our ceremony, we did a lot of research online on the best methods for vaporizing DMT. Many experienced users recommend the Glass Vapor Genie (GVG) as the gold standard due to its efficiency and smoothness. Unfortunately, when we tried to order one, it was on backorder and never arrived in time for our ceremony. The company’s customer service was very disappointing calls went straight to voicemail, and emails went unanswered.
With GVG out of the picture, we researched alternatives and found two options often mentioned online:
1. Dynavap M7 (manual vaporizer)
2. Puffco Peak / Pivot (electronic vaporizer)
We also purchased a microscale for precise dosing and a torch lighter for the Dynavap since it is manually heated.

 Our Experience with Each Device
❌ Dynavap M7 – Terrible for DMT
 Despite multiple attempts, we could only get a few small, inconsistent hits.
 Dynavap is really designed for herbs and weed, not DMT.
 The heat control was poor, leading to either burning or wasting the material.
 Verdict: We do NOT recommend Dynavap for DMT at all.

✅ Puffco Pivot – Much Better
 Puffco Pivot (similar to Puffco Peak) worked far more consistently.
 The challenge: it has 4 heat settings (blue, green, red, white), and we didn’t
know which one worked best.
Here’s what we found:

Heat Setting Experience

White (max) Way too hot – burned lips and throat, very harsh. Avoid. Red Produces a strong hit and allowed for a breakthrough, but still harsh on the throat.

Green Smoother than red, good potency, moderate harshness.

Blue (lowest) Smoothest, easiest to inhale and hold. Allowed for deeper, longer breaths and a calmer overall experience. Surprisingly, blue still produced breakthrough-level effects because we could breathe better and hold the vapor in longer.

 Our Recommendation
1. Start with Blue: It’s the smoothest and easiest to manage. Take a few good hits, inhale deeply, and hold. Blue is less harsh, making it easier to get a full dose.
2. If you want to experiment: Try Green next—it’s slightly more intense but still manageable.
3. Red only if you’re comfortable: It can lead to more intense breakthroughs but is harsher. We do not recommend White—it’s unnecessarily hot and unpleasant.

 Final Tips
 Weigh every dose with a microscale for consistency (Many people online recommend around 30–40mg for a “breakthrough” hit)
 Have a sitter or trusted friend present—especially if it’s your first time.
 Focus on breathing: The ability to inhale fully and hold your breath matters more than just cranking up the heat.
 Avoid Dynavap entirely—it’s frustrating and wastes material.

This was our experience—hopefully, it helps others who are curious about how these devices compare. If you can get a Glass Vapor Genie, it’s still considered the best option, but if not, Puffco Pivot on Blue or Green is a great alternative for a smooth, reliable experience.

Is this generated based on an actual experience, or just generated?

Anyways, assuming the first, those "harsh" hits mean that you're burning spice. It's actually not surprising that the setting that resulted in the smoothest vapor also lead to breakthrough, as it means no DMT was being burnt.

I think we should not recommend 30-40mg for "breakthrough" with electronic vaporisers when 25-30mg is often sufficient and 30-40 can be overwhelming. It would be better to begin experimenting around 10-20mg.

if this is correct then its very important information for someone like me who has just done his first extraction and is having trouble finding the dose amount, its almost like its a secret lol... i actually was thinking maybe it was in the rules that mention of it is not allowed.
i read the rules and dont rememebr seeing that.
but anyway, i thank you all for the info in this thread.

i tried to buy a VG yesterday but after being asked to verify with photo id online i declined.
i had planned to call them today but after reading these posts i may just go with the recommendation here.

whichever method i use i want it to be somewhat precise and controllable, sounds like vg and puffco both fit these parameters

Check Psychonaut Wiki for dosages of different substances if you don't know about it, they tend to be quite correct: DMT

Specifically about DMT, the Nexian DMT Handbook has everything you need to get started: Wiki - The Nexian DMT Handbook

For dosing a new drug ALWAYS use the Dr. Shulgin method.

1.) Begin with a ridiculously low dose, what you think might be subthreshold. I'd recommend 2-5 mgs.

2.) Slowly begin to titrate up (I'd recommend 5 mgs up or down for each titration) until you find your sweet spot.

By 10 mgs you should really be noticing effects, possibly like a heavy acid trip with a very real body load. After that depending upon user and device it is hard to predict.

If you are using in the approximate 10 mgs range and getting no effects look to refining and quickening your vaporization technique. Always try to make the first hit the biggest one and hold for as much as 20 seconds. If needed take a QUICK recovery breath then hit again until the dose is gone.

The above is my philosophy.

There are those around here who believe it is low doses that set up fear cycles in people's heads (pre-launch anxiety) and makes it difficult to launch in the future. This school of thought mainly ascribes to the idea that one should not give oneself time to resist or think things over, just go for a breakthrough and go for it fast and hard. If this is your desire and you're working with a novel device I would recommend starting at 20 mgs. After that follow the Dr. Shulgin method mentioned above.

Happy vaping.

i had heard that and was originally planning a small dose first off, but then started rethinking that plan after finding that out.

currently im actually unsure but was probably going to go with 10mg, maybe split the diff and do 15😉 but now i think i might use your higher suggestion and go with 5, i'll see how brave i am on the day, either 5 or 15, i plan to make no plan!!! 😂 i will report back what i find

at this point im confident this will be a lifestyle change as opposed to a one off trip, but obviously that decision is technically not up to me

just to update...
the pivot is awesome and convenient, i highly recommend it.

i started on 10mg and have gone up 5mg at a time, im currently at 35mg, and am now getting intense visuals, i "think" i broke through the other day, it was wild!!.
i'll be doing 40mg this week.

tonite i found some great accessories for the pivot so i will update when i receive them.
i ordered a glass mouthpiece with built in water reservoir and an improved 360 degree heating chamber.

i have stuck to the lowest setting but will start the next level soon.

retails for $130, refurb or ebay around $90
glass mouthpiece $50
