I have lost my purspose in life because of DMT

Dear DMT users,
I am writing here to clear my thoughts. I have read a lot about DMT, mainly other people's experiences but also scientific articles. My problem is that I have lost my purpose in life because of DMT. Since my student years, I have believed in the afterlife, astral projection, higher self, karma, in God... But it turns out that what I thought was parapsychology could just be a "trip" caused by the natural occurrence of DMT in the brain. Most DMT experiences closely resemble astral projection, near-death experiences, communication with angelic beings, etc. So everything that I believed in and gave me strength and hope is suddenly gone. I am writing here because I do not have any real experience with DMT. I am curious to hear the opinion of an experienced DMT user - what do you think about it?

I've skydived before - I doubt it compares - but hopefully that is some exposure therapy 😂

Not being able to unring the bell sounds ominous, but I'm not sure it would be a bad thing in my situation.

Food for thought anyway.

Thank you.

Emma, I think the long and short of it is that it's your decision and only yours. Skydiving changes your outlook on life in a very different way. Just like skydiving, DMT is almost always an amazing experience, but every now and then it all goes wrong and a person hits the ground too hard.

We have a rule just before we exit the aircraft with a first time passenger. If they say NO, we ask them again if they are sure they dont want to skydive. If they say no a second time we give them one more chance. Three times saying NO, then we bring them down in the aircraft.

To force someone to jump after the third NO would 99.99% of the time result in a safe skydive. But should that 0.01% chance end with an injury or death, the forcing would be a morally criminal decision.

Perhaps translate that to your own decision with DMT. Once you have some spice available, give yourself three tries. If you tell yourself NO three times, just drop it and never look back. Once you jump, you can't get back in the aircraft.

I like the analogy and the advice.
I'm likely still at least 12 months off having some available, so plenty more time to ponder (it's already been 6-7 years or thereabouts). :)
Thank you.

was it everything you hoped it would be? was it worth doing again?

I've skydived before. I'd say it was overpriced for what it is. a few thrilling seconds and a minute of calm with a nice view. I'm apparently not an adrenaline junkie, 'woosh! I go really fast' doesn't hold a lot of wow-factor for me. I found The Gulag Archipelago or Varieties of Religious Experience more exciting than 2 Fast 2 Furious or John Wick. YMMV.
DMT, on the other hand, forced me to rethink everything I'd ever taken for granted, and some rather important philosophical ideas I'd lazily dismissed without truly trying to comprehend. It showed me to what an extent I had no clue what the word enlightenment means, or what mysticism is, or where religions (however wayward they end up) come from.
I would no more compare the two than bouncing on a trampoline to time-traveling to Ancient Greece (where, alas I can't learn a damn thing from Plato when I find him, ignorant as I am of his language, but nevertheless I might hope to pay attention to what I see there and perhaps learn something new).

Maybe you should not believe anything, either know or do not know, that is how i think and it serves me well.

I can say that i have had experiences with DMT alone and mixed with the special vine which have proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are beings or spirits out there or in here. Which means to me that this world we live in is not everything, there is much more.

Hello,

I've researched DMT on and off for around 7 years.

Still haven't tried it.

Any pointers? Do you recommend? I'm a little scared.

Have never tried any psychedelics; just cannabis.

:)
Hello,

It's interesting for me to imagine experiencing dmt through your perspective, i mean to say, a perspective that is not bound to expectations or comparison. I would be very curious to hear your trip report! With that said, even with some components of the experience seeming similar to those of other trips, and personally having experience with many substances, the dmt voyage is by far the definitive, chemically induced self exploration.

If there was one thing that i benefited from by having experience with tripping prior to experiencing dmt, it would be the spatial awareness or being able to remind myself that i took something and this is it and wow!

Don't be afraid! By researching thoroughly the things we do in life, we also research ourselves. DMT gives us an incredible opportunity to glimpse into ourselves while also being able to share something that is, in my experience with it, one of the most beautiful and truly meaningful things that i have ever had the good fortune to stumble upon.

-Realistically speaking:

DMT is intense. I'd compare it with uploading to the matrix to learn how to be an electron.

You close your eyes and BOOM

You are in all encompassing, impossible geometry that playfully beckons your mind's eye.

Awe. Enchantment. Confirmation.

-With 5 more little milligrams....

(all of the above except in 1/1000th of a second)

BOOM!

(Insert your dmt breakthrough experience here)

I trip by myself sometimes, but on the big trips I'm usually with my wife. It's nice to have someone to send out a little reminder or even a "babe, you good?" which normally tends to be followed by a "holy shit this is fkn amazing" and hysterical laughter.

The fine print:

There is a 1% chance that a trip will move with such incredible intensity, that you will immediately find that there was nothing to prepare you if there was actually even a you to prepare. This realization is often followed by an overwhelming feeling of loss, or death. The key here is to be swift in discarding what is no longer needed to proceed towards what you mean to do in the dmt lol.

Write everything you can remember down, then relax and enjoy the insights and amazing memories that come trickling in. Yes, that shit was live. Yes you can go there again.

Cheers

That is some great information right there - thank you! :)

I truly love and enjoy psychedelics, out of artistic sentiment, curiosity, wonder, relevance, purpose, profundity etc. The drive, and attraction, behind my adventure is a mixture of many emotions. One does not need to seek psychedelics out to ‘heal’ or ‘change’.

You might consider starting with something more gentle, and see what you enjoy and feel good with. Maybe a bit(1-2grams) of psilocybin mushrooms in your back yard could be a nice place to gently dip your toes in the water.

As with all things in life, we cannot really forget or un-live what we’ve seen. Your soul is growing with each moment it passes through. That applies to every path you should take now, whether it includes psychedelics or not.

It was said before, there are non-local theories of existence. I currently think DMT / Near Death and Astral Projection are not about what the chemicals do for you, but rather the things that they force to stop working.

As in, in all three cases, constraints are being removed, as opposed to them being the inducer of experience. So one idea is that something else altogether is going on, and this stuff, whatever the hell it is, is filtering / confining / restricting whatever is really going on.

If it is any consolation, an interesting thing to note, is that in all three cases, you can barely move nor process senses. With NDE you are mostly dead (big difference between mostly dead and all dead). With sleep, influence of the senses try to remove the state. With DMT, if you blasted off, you probably can't even carry a pen, and your awareness of your surroundings may or may not be there, or be thoroughly mixed with the DMT experience. There are some exceptions to DMT, but it is pretty common with high doses.

and there are other similar and more defined beliefs and theories that, to me, make a lot of sense but definitely seem to require a few boatloads of imagination more than is usually found.

For the interplay of paranormal and normal, I don't think the answer is simple. I suppose it might be simple, but I also see no reason why it might not be extremely complex, especially to be useful in any capacity.

I really value this viewpoint. It seems more truthful to the experience reports to frame it as limitations disappearing rather than chemicals "creating" anything. It also explains why the loss of body control and sensory input is shared by these states. Whatever is going on, it doesn't feel like a straightforward on/off switch phenomenon.
