Kratom was the best thing on planet earth to have when I broke my foot. I had some interesting lucid dreamlike experiences, which prompted me to explore the entheogenic potential of this plant.
In my experience, Bali is sleepy, with perhaps a greater body load, Indo was more psychedelic, and Maenga Da felt the smoothest/strongest/balanced.
A low dose on an empty stomach worked best for me (never more than 4g). If I took this with at least a week off between sessions, I had a nice afterglow into the next day and felt no kind of hangover or cravings. I found if I took it two days back to back, the second day was never as good as the first (tolerance), and my bowels were horribly disrupted in the days to follow (like my rough ride with codeine after getting wisdom teeth pulled).
The moral of the story: Kratom can be useful in times of need or a lovely treat, if used rarely and sparingly. Any more than that, it becomes physiologically disruptive and a tolerance builds, so it is also completely not worth taking it more than very rarely.
Also, beware: while I have NEVER felt cravings from Kratom personally, I gave some to two friends once, and I was a bit disturbed to hear them fiending for more. They really wanted some the next day and wouldn't stop talking about it. I didn't give them any more... So perhaps some people are more predisposed to an addiction than others.
And for what it's worth, the only time I ever puked was when I drank 8g with some grapefruit juice on a full stomach (the 4g hadn't worked because my stomach was so full, decided to redose, and, uuuugh!).
Kratom is definitely interesting. It reminds me of all the great things about smoking cannabis (dreamy mindstates, enhanced sense of music, body euphoria), but without any of the negative side effects (paranoia, terror, anxiety, laziness). It does last about 24-26 hours.
Ultimately, though, Kratom is no great teacher. It does not combine with Ayahuasca, and I have forsaken Kratom to persue the path that develops my soul.
