Picasso seems to have tapped in to higher dimensions experienced during ayahuasca or DMT type sessions...not sure....

Many other of his paintings reflect the same nature.

I *think* he might have stated it as an influence or it would be a known fact if he did.

I think he was just a brilliant, abstract artist.

Maybe so, but no one would know if he had 'seen the other side' or not. It seems as though many great minds had 'influences' that they did not describe because of scrutiny. But, he probably did it sober, as a sober mind is the best mind.

I dont really see the DMT influence in his art at all to be honest. It is just abstract but not really anything like tryptamines at all..maybe he was baked. Cannabis and opium are likely candidates...absynth..

I agree with jamie, I don't find it reminiscent of trips. I think Picasso was more into deconstructing visual representation, not representing altered perception, let alone alternate realms.

Here's a little-known Picasso fact: he was blind in one eye and had no depth perception. Rembrandt too.

Not to place myself in either of their company, but I too am a one-eyed artist. But I am fascinated with depth and dimension, and my art is largely dedicated to simulating depth. It looks absolutely nothing like Picasso's art... But what I do see in his paintings is a very unusual approach to dealing with depth and dimension. Lacking the holographic view that most folks have, he may have found it very natural to deconstruct things as he did, often showing multiple angles at the same time. He also experienced his heyday around the time that futurism, cubism, surrealism etc were replacing more traditional illustrative painting... And he leaped into this new world of possibilities with tremendous vigor.

Acid/shrooms etc just weren't around at the time. Absinthe? Very possible...

..i remember many years ago, when first encountering DMT, i smoked it with the lights on and observed the kitchen..the fridge became a semi-aware being, but, more importantly, i could simultaneously see behind it, underneath it, on top of it etc..at the time i thought 'very Cubist'..

so while i don't find Picasso's stylistic mode very DMT-like, i do find the concept of Cubist art has something in common..

Those look similar to 2d landscape I have seen on DMT some times, but I doubt he even knew about ayahuasca.

Picasso spent some time smoking opium, when he went to Paris, with Modigliani, Apollinaire and others.

The visions and opium dreams most certainly had an influence in his art. Something might happen between cubism and the particular perception of space and time that opium brings.

Regarding his use of other drugs, there's no record that I know of.

I would be very interested to see your type of art, Guyomech. Could you start an art thread? I'd like to see what you mean by simulating depth, with a one-eyed perception.
