The Pachycereus Pringlei has been a mystery for quite some time. Alexander Shulgin knew this cactus to be psychedelic but he could not identify any known psychoactive compounds in the cactus. His best hypothesis was that there was an isoquinoline compound in the cactus that was acting as an MAOI and was activating an unidentified phenethylamine compound in the cactus which resulted in a psychedelic effect.
During Shulgin's experience with this cactus, some of the people who consumed the cactus with him got horribly sick from it.
It has been debated online whether the combination of MAOI compounds is safe with the consumption of cacti due to the presence of Tyramine and other compounds that may be harmful when ingested with an MAOI.
There was a forum member named lemmy who, in 2019, took an interest in the Pachycereus Pringlei cactus. His account dates back to 2008 but he abruptly stopped posting altogether in 2019 after he planned to consume the cactus. He said he was going to try it and then he was going to come back to share his trip report, but he never returned.
A reasonable conclusion would be that this cactus may have killed him.
The consumption of Pringlei is rare and not well-documented or studied. The very few trip reports seem to have dysphoric effects. I would not recommend anyone attempts a trip with this cactus
or any cactus that has not been well-documented or studied.
Lemmy, if you're reading this and still alive, please make a post so we can know what happened.
