Problems with herb infusion

when trying to make enhanced leaf, I usually do small amounts as I am still trying to find a mix that is good (150mg herbs : 50mg spice). I dissolve the spice in a small amount of ethanol in a shot glass for maybe 2 min then add the herbs and wait for full evaporation before removing anything, stirring occasionally. But when I smoke this I experience only mild threshold effects.

I have done several trials with the same results. Is there an error in my method or could I be smoking it wrong? (if there even is a wrong way to smoke leaf) I use a waterbong, light with a bic inhale for ~5sec, pull the cone to take the hit and hold in for 10-15 secs.

I'm not sure that a 3:1 ratio of herbs:spice would be a great idea. You might wanna get that closer to 2:1 or 1:1, especially since it's not working well. Remember that you wanna get as much of the dose that you load for yourself in as few hits as possible. The more herb, the less DMT absorption, and if you have to take multiple hits, it will just draw out the smoking process and potentially water down the experience.

When it's evaporating, don't stir anything. Let it sit motionless until complete. Finally, making enhanced leaf just doesn't seem to work that well when you use small amounts. I know, I've done similar in the past and it also didn't really work well. You're gonna probably have to use a "significant" amount of DMT (.5-1g) and keep that ratio of herbs:spice down, and you should be off and running.

I'm thinking it should evaporate faster if you leave it alone, and also I'd think you'd be wasting some DMT by getting it stuck to the stirrer (especially if there's such a small amount like 50mg being used). Anyway, it's just been my approach to not stir. Maybe I've been wrong this whole time, but that's just what I do.

hmm maybe stiring is what did it. Another thing, I let it evap by a window so the airflow speeds the process could i be losing any product due to sunlight or rapid air movement?

I ask any chemist to please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know there are four factors affecting evaporation - the rate of particles flying away in gaseous form.

You have heat (makes particles move more), surface (the bigger the surface, the higher the amount of particles that have room and chance to escape), pressure (the lower the atmospheric pressure, the more free the particles are to fly away) and air flow (a higher air velocity decreases the concentration of gas molecules above the liquid, which helps the rest to move eventually).

Stirring should increase the surface and the air flow on top, so if anything, a liquid should evaporate a little faster when stirred than standing still, with no extra air flow.

As for alkaloids getting stuck to the stirrer, I'd say one can use a non-porous tool (glass, non-reactive metal) and, if deemed necessary, wash it with a minimal amount of solvent that can be added to the herbs for the final, static, evaporation.

In any case, it's true that the effort of stirring manually might not be worth it. If you are in a rush, using a little heat and air flow will probably be more effective and hassle-free.

I had 25mg worth of spice. I doubt the ratio is the problem, I'm not looking to breakthrough with this blend and have gone further with less, the effects are next to unnoticeable. But thanks for the input, currently making 1:2 and not mixing at all to see if I notice anything, I don't know what it is but I'm thinking the spice maybe.

yea I'd suggest trying a larger ratio in a larger batch. There's always some residue in the glass that just can't scrape up with the leaves after it's evapped. I'd bet you lose ~25mg in transferring and evaporating a changa procedure. That loss is big when you're only using 50mg to begin with and are doing a 3:1... you're only smoking like 10mg per bowl at most.

Spice is spice is spice. It's all the same. I doubt that the "quality" of your spice has anything to do with this enhanced leaf failure. It does sound most likely like the ratio is your problem. I've rarely heard of anyone using a 3:1 ratio. You may not be looking to breakthrough, but it sounds like you're disappointed with how it is now, no? I've made these same mistakes in the past and had the same frustration. You need a more even ratio, and you need to use more DMT. You don't have to smoke more DMT, you can take just a tiny bit of the stuff, but the infusion process really doesn't work well at all with low amounts. You say you've gone further with less, and I actually find this to be very likely because when you infuse low amounts, sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't. Sometimes the enhanced leaf will come out super potent, and the next time it will just taste like funky herbs. It makes the infusion process quite inconsistent.
