Questions on evaporation

I just did my first extraction with Cybs Hybrid Tek. Will post up my thoughts and results later.

My question relates to the stage after you have frozen the naptha.

After I took mine out of the freezer, rather than fanning it (I didn't have a fan) - I just put my dishes into a cardboard box with air holes on the side and put them into the shed. They have been out there for more than 12 hours and the bulk of the solvent is gone - there is the sticky layer on the bottom which still smells of solvent. Although advice says that the solvent smell should be gone, I am assuming the solvent smell is stuck in the sticky layer? See photo attached.

Can I now scrape off for recrystallization?

Would you expect a sticky layer after re crystallization as well?

Are the crystals usable now if the sticky stuff is still there either now or after recrystallization? My plan is the vape the stuff so obviously I am concerned about vaping in solvent.

One final question - when I have scraped my stuff out should I leave them on paper for further drying so all sides of the crystal are exposed to the air to let the solvent come off? i.e the crystals stuck to the glass may still have solvent in them on the underside? Should I use a razor to brake all the crystals into a powder?

Curious about how much material you started with.

Can't you leave it outside the box for a few hours to get aerated? Next to a windowsill at night would be great.. that should take care of residual solvent.

Scraping it up and leaving it to dry some more would be good too.

The sticky stuff is ok, it's basically dmt. If you were careful pulling and are confident you didn't pull any of the base soup then you're good to go. A rex can be fun so go for it if you'd like to try and get bigger xtals, the sticky layer might still be there though. A mini A/B or washing the solvent with warm water (with a pinch of sodium carbonate) before freeze precip would help clean the dmt and possibly make it less likely for a sticky layer to form.

I would also gently scrape the xtals and put them aside for a "pure" pile, then go hard scraping everything else with the sticky layer and have a "less pure" pile, and make changa with it.

Science says that sticky and goo is usually Just As Pure as white or yellow crystals or powder .

Due to the polymorfic nature of DMT .

It is mostly a myth that white is more pure .. it does look perty heh

Another myth is that Red Goo is some sorta Mystery substance called.... JUNGLE SPICE .....but Science/testing says it is just nnDMT .

The sticky stuff is DMT that oiled out. As the dish cools, saturation increases, until crystals nucleate. However, a freezer can drop the temp faster than the crystals can grow, leading to a supersaturation that can precipitate out as a liquid instead of a solid. Think DMT-rain vs DMT-snow. It can also happen another way, when a dish sits dead-still, microclimates in the solvent can develop faster than the solvent can diffuse homogenously, leading to zones of supersaturation. Basically, it happens to everyone who leaves their naphtha dish in the fridge / freezer.

The liquid DMT acts like a solvent itself, dissolving some of the actual solvent, as well as potential impurities. I would give it more time, use a fan, until the solvent smell is gone. Then scrape it up, chop it up, spread out the powder, let it dry another day or two. Most of the solvent should be evaporated by then. The product will retain a slight waxy quality.

A mini-A/B and/or recrystallization could give another chance at precipitating without oiling out. If you intend to do that you don't need to wait for it to dry, just scrape it up and toss it in the next solvent, or dissolve it without scraping. But the stickiness is still DMT so it's up to you whether it matters.

I started with 250g of MHRB powder because that was all I could get.

I put 125g into a 2l jar (did the process twice side by side to make 250g). I know it is recommended to do 50g at a time for a newbie but due to the amount of hassle this was, I wanted to do it all in one go because I have limited time to do it in the kitchen. I don't think it made it particularly that much extra work doing 250g over 50g.

I went out to have another look. I have 3 dishes and 1 definitely still smelt of solvent so I have scraped and then just spread them out and will leave for one more night.

As poster above said, it may have been easy enough to do the re X tonight but I don't mind waiting until tomorrow.

Just done the re x - it all went a cloudy white and it was hard to see what was good and bad in the cup - i only left like a small drop left in the cup for waste
