This isn't my first rodeo.

My first and only extration of DMT was in 2019 using the STB method. I remember the process well. I managed to procure all of the equipmet and ingredients online and for less than the price of a gram of spice. I can still put myself there, the bleachlike aroma of the NaOH in solution, the indole heavy "new car" smell of our friend, the potent petrochemical hint of naptha. After about 3 days of work, there it was - a number of clear crystals suspended in sticky yellow goo, about 1 g total from 50g MHRB. A low yield but I was happy. After some research into what exactly the "goo" was comprised of, I decided I did not want to waste any more time on further pruifying what I had obtained. So I took out my pipe, (one of those round glass meth pipes) and loaded up a measured dose. I can't remember exactly how much this was as this was 7 years ago. However, I remember that it was enough to encourage me that what I had was a potent psychedelic.
At this time in my life I had already tried a number of substances, starting MDMA, then LSD, followed by 2CB, psilocybin (synthetic and natural) and 2CE. I remember that first hit felt like an entire acid trip crammed into the space of 5 - 10 minutes. That first hit made me feel like an Alchemist. The excitement that I felt at my ability to manifest something so profound still resonates with me to this day. Where I had started out with caution and respect for the molecule, this soon made way to excitement and hubris.

I wanted to break through.

I was very naive. I threw all caution to the wind and loaded up a big clump of the sticky goop that was in my dish and clumsily put it in the pipe. This was a mistake, I implore that you do not repeat my mistake.

In hindsight I set myself up for failure as before taking the megadose I was watching the Trialogue between McKenna, Sheldrake and Abrham. This video was dealing with some pretty heavy topics and filled me with existential angst before I even picked up the pipe (what's that they say about set and setting?). What insued was an eternity of torment, my being stretched to infinity and back, unable to percieve what I was, where I was or how I was, only that it was wrong. I was one with the infinite space and that space was comprised of existential terror. it burned. From my research I was expecting some kind of build up, some sort of continuity but there was none. One minute I was me, sucking down the spice, the next I WAS a demension of terror, with no reccolection of this mode of existance, no gradient, no transition, just as if I'd been in that space forever. Then all of a sudden after an eternity of paint, I was back - still loaded beyond belief but convinced that something was fundimentally wrong. I remember not having any clue what was going on around me, convinced I had broken my brain, "I've finally done it now". Every thing that had ever given me existential fear was now present in my head, I had lost my mind, it was my fault, my parents knew everything, and the police were coming to arrest me. Gradually I came back to reality and I felt as though hot liquid had spilled all over my lap, or whatever concept slowly morphed into my lap as I came back around. The pipe had fallen onto my lap. I looked at it and then it all made sense. "Oh, oh my god, that.. I did DMT... thats what that was" - I thought .

At this point I was working an office job full time and I lived alone in my parents old house, I hadn't really lived much life and most of what I had lived was filled with worry and dread. I was absolutely terrified of everything, the spice showed me this as clearly as it could by condesing down my state of mind and making it my whole reality.

I had been a daily weed smoker at this point for at least 4 years, but that expereince left me so rattled I didnt smoke for a week. When I did smoke after that week, it was like something was slowly dragging me back to that place, like the DMT had opened something in my brain. I had to really pull my mind back from going down that tunnel. I had heard of the gateway process whilst doing some lunchtime reading at work. I found the technique from the CIA database. That night I had woken up at 4 in the morning and decided it was a good idea to smoke a huge joint and try this process, with my mind as delicate as it was this was a terrible idea - (this is a recurring theme in my life, no half measures eh?). I synchronised the hemispheres of my brain then fucused the energy to a point behind my eyes, I pushed forwards out into the void and Bam! - an overwhelming prescence filled my head - a mocking, devious intelligence. At the time I though I had let a demon into my brain. But after 7 years of diplomacy with this prescence, I have come to understand that it is simply my subconcious, or some culmination of the subconcious and my higher self (if theres even a difference?). The reason for its mocking nature was in response to my taking everything too seriously. At the time I was absolutly terrified of what was happening, was I schizophrenic? If i hadn't broken my brain before, I'd deffinitely done it now. The morning after this I was in work, I couldn't tell anyone what had happened or that it was still happening. There was a sort of overlay to reality, I could see the prescence of this subconcious entity overlayed on every physical thing in my vision, always there right in front. Watching. Its attitude was no longer mocking, or mean but almost benevolant, and craving attention. It wanted to be seen and acknowledged. Seeking solace I was nudged toward the Dao de Jing, which helped me greatly with the integration of many of these themes. It feels like all of this was an attmept from my subconcious to push me further towards my interest in esoteric knowledge and mysticism and to integrate it with my more traditional scientific interests.

That would remain the most potent experience of my life, untill i started experimenting with heroic doses of Ketamine, i'll save these experiences for a different post.
Now in the years since I have been terrified to attempt breaking through again, I have experimented with changa, lsd, psilocybin, all with varying degrees of insight. but nothing makes me sweat like good ol Dimitri. I've lived some life sife these experiences and it has tempered me. I'm now in a place where I can start to think about these thing again, in time.

I hear her calling... the spice.

PS- Crazy synchronicity - Last year at my local gym, I ended up meeting the sound engineer for the terrence video- the one that filled me with so much existential terror. His name was Tim Freeke, hes a pholosophy professor with a very interesting youtube channel (just - Tim Freeke - on youtube)

TLDR:

On my first encounter I took a mighty hyperslap. This scared me for the last 7 years. I am now coming to terms with the lesson.

I am working towards returning to this space, learning what it means to be respectful.

Hey bro. Funny coincidence... I haven't been here in like 5 years and I just broke through after years of occasional sub-orbital flights because like you, I had a terrifying experience. I was in love with it until I met the demons one day and just a thought of that trip was enough to keep me away from breaking through for some 5 years.

I have recently extracted some MHRB and ended up with a gram of spice which is plentiful given my usual breakthrough dose used to be 30mg. Tried it a few times in my GVG but it didn't work the way it used to. I wasn't pulling in enough smoke and something felt off with the technique so I bought a new liquid pad online. Today I tried it and loaded 26mg into my GVG thinking that it might not work again but it worked like a charm. One hit and it took me to places I haven't seen in 5 years and it was amazing. I was so grateful when I came back because I really missed hyper space but the fear stopped me from coming back.

Spice is inexplicable and sometimes we might be forced to take a break to integrate the experiences even if it takes years. In my years away I found a meaning in daily pranayama and meditation. In my case it has been the absolute opposite of DMT. No big excitement, no ups and downs, just a very steady path. For some people would be boring for sure but I can't now imagine a morning without it. I gives calm and clarity.

For a few years I was mostly sober. I stopped drinking 9 years ago and when I couldn't use DMT, I had nothing except occasional mushroom trip. Everything is cyclical and sometimes we crave the old experiences and I have found myself thinking of DMT again.

Years ago it kicked the door open for me, I enjoyed it for some time and then I got terrorized and traumatized by it. I always hoped I could come back and it has just happened because there was no fear. I genuinely though it was going to be a nothing burger again but instead I broke through just like years ago:-))

I hope it happens for you too! It is refreshing to revisit the hyper space after a long exile :-))

Hey, thanks for sharing.

There is more coincidence here than is evident by my post. It's interesting you should mention pranayama and adhering to a very steady path.

Ill try to explain how as concisely as possible as it requires some context.

At the time of my first extraction I was a very impatient, very naive person. I wouldn't say I'm much more patient but I'd like to think I am less naive. I can at least see the value in patiance and have the desire to work on fostering it. At this time I was also starting to venture down a practice of breathwork, namely tummo breathing which runs parallel to pranayama and verious modes of self study. What the spice showed me was how much existential dread I felt at the time, the space it put me into showed me that my impatience was the primary cause for this overwhelming existential dread - I impatiently overloaded the pipe and was taken to a realm of existental pain and torment. In the 7 years since this event I have struggled greatly with the same problems and it is only in the last 5 or six weeks that I have started to understand, truly, what was intended to be communicated by this experience. Namely, if I focus on patience first then everything else becomes far less scary and that angst dissipates. Reframing my mindset from "it must happen now or it never will" to "we'll get there eventually" is allowing me to find more joy in what I am doing and, ultimately, be less scared of failure. I used to avoid starting new projects because I knew they would take prolonged effort and focus. I knew from experience I would give up when things didn't happen instantly so all my ideas would remain as ideas. But recently I have started to see the benefit in prolonged focus and just sitting with the awkwardness that can arrise when trying to realise an idea. Its still difficult for me to show up when I need to but, as I mentioned before, I have made peace with things taking time.

In the preceeding 7 years I have lived a significant amount of life which has been a sort of crash course. This is a long and convoluted story; to give some idea I spent the last 3 years living on the side of a road in a caravan (trailer) entirely out of my own volition. In this time I learnt that every decision I make has an effect on othe people, either directly or indirectly. It also put me face to face with real friendship and some real life villains. This gave me lots of data to help me measure how my ideals map on to reality. I'm a pacifist by nature but I have had my hand forced in multiple situations. I am also a generous person but I have learnt that some people will take and take and take. Effectively, what I am trying to say, is that in this time I have managed to find balance, or at least have figured out how to find my centre, even if I may not always remain there. I have hit rock bottom and I have soared through the stratosphere, and I am just fine with chuggin' along in the middle.

In the last 5 weeks I have started my breathwork again and have started few long form projects, I have also started seeing a psychoanalyst to help me better understand the unconcious motivations behind a lot of this.

With all this coalescing I find myself drawn back to the spice, and psychedelics in general. That's not to say I havn't had my fair share of psychedelic experiences over the years but now I am entereing with a renewed purpose and some real respect for the journey. But, I am going to be patient and take my time with it. I'm still trying to understand some pretty heavy reality bending experiences from my deluge into assorted arylcyclehexylamines. I'm hoping some freshly foraged libs will help me to integrate what exatly I can gain from these experiences.

What I read from this is that I was way too immature to handle the other side when I first started this. I still have never broken through and thats no longer my goal. Still, my experience with DMT remains the most potent of my life. Now that I am more mature I feel it calling again. I needed that 7 year hiatus to grow as a person before I was ready to start thinking about how to properly approach an experience as profound as this. I am more than happy to wait for when the time is right.

Man, I tried to keep this short but it turned into another wall of text. My bad!

please keep the "walls of text" coming.
while todays youngsters cannot concentrate on more than a short paragraph, there are plenty of old volks here who appreciate reading a story, for me, its mostly why i come here.
as i have commented elsewhere here recently, i cannot understand people who respond to a post without reading it because "it was too long"

if my post here is too long, feel free to press the x in the corner 👍
