I used rue orally a few times but the taste was unbearable so I decided to smoke it.

I've taken two routes for smoking:
1. Taking out the tobacco out of a cigarette and filling it up with rue
2. Smoking around two table spoons of rue in two sessions 1 minute apart with a pipe

I tried both ungrinded and grinded seeds.

Neither of these methods had me feeling effects of rue that I always felt with two table spoons of rue ingested orally.

What could be the reason for me not getting any effects?

First of all, smoking rue seeds works, but you will never get to the same level as you would by using extracts.
Just look into harmalas extraction in the wiki and smoke it that way, either in changa or by itself ;)

Either you've a head like a brick or your seeds are really weak! You really ate something like eighteen grams of rue? Could you tell us more about this experience, preferably with some context about yourself, your life habits, and how the seeds were prepared (if at all)?

Oh it's definitely not 18 grams! I've never bothered to check the exact weight per use but 100g of rue lasts me about 15 times with each use being 2 table spoons. So less than 6.6g per "trip". Perhaps you were thinking of those bigger table spoons?

Well, that's a relief! 😂 6.6 g sounds very strong but not ridiculous, especially if you're more strongly or more generously built.

For clarification:
1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5 mL
1 dessert spoon (dsp) = 10 mL
1 table spoon (tbsp) = 15 mL

Volume to weight conversions for seeds gets a bit sketchy, plus the various sizes of dining spoons vary quite considerably in design, meaning they're usually smaller than their corresponding kitchen measure definition. I measure rue seeds with my kitchen measuring scoops after having 'calibrated' them for the mass each one holds. Iirc, 5 mL = ca. 3g. Heaped amounts are therefore best avoided entirely - unless you end up weighing them, of course.
