SWIM began following Lazyman's STB tek and aborted abruptly because there was either a bad reaction with the lye and metal pot, or the recommended 200g of lye was far too much. Using far less lye and still getting 13pH SWIM continues with Lazyman's tek. SWIM retrieves beautiful looking crystals after evaporating away the naphtha of the first extraction.
SWIM loads a hit into the little light-bulb vaporizer and hits. The effects have a hint of spice but the fact that the tip of SWIM's tongue and a portion of lip are numb and stinging a bit pulls SWIM back from the rainbow mind clouds. T'was a taste reminiscent of battery acid... or perhaps LYE? Is that possible friends? Lye sneaking from the basic soup into the NPS extraction layer? The naptha was clear as water.

Also, I am unaware yet of a simple wash procedure for purification. Any direction is gladly followed.

namaste.

It's possible that it is lye but I'm more inclined to believe its some other contamination caused by an interaction between the lye and the metal that was likely absorbed by the solvent. If this is the case I highly recommend you dispose of that batch and start a new one.

If it is lye you can clean your spice using a sodium carbonate wash
*it appears it won't let me link directly to it, it's section 4.2. I'll quote it here
Procedure for Washing Spice of Oxidization and Inactive Impurities Using Alkaline Solution

1. Saturate a solution of warm water with a weak base such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or sodium carbonate (washing soda) to render an alkaline solution.
* sodium bicarbonate can be converted to sodium carbonate.
2. Dissolve product in an NPS of preference.
3. Add alkaline solution to the NPS at a ratio of about 1:4 and mix thoroughly.
4. Remove and collect the top NPS layer, and proceed to recrystallization procedure of preference.

I wish you safe and happy travels

This worm dreams of a variation on STB that is very similar to Noman's. Never fails. Heard from other places (not ast reliabe as Nexus of course) Lazyman tek is a medocre spice production dream. For potential future dreams.

Just a worm's thoughts.

Do I read correctly the OP, Lye used in metal container?? Bloody hell...

N-E-V-E-R!!!!!!!!!!

People must be more careful with their extractions, there was another thread with someone using aluminium for their extraction, ffs......

Yeh.... You shouldnt ever use a metal pot with anything that has to do with lye. How much rootbark did you use? 1lb?

I think you should read around a bit more.. People often suggest using HDPE and/or Glass. Also, if you had access to Lye, you could have/should have done a different tek, Lazyman's is for people that might not have access to lye in which case they can use sodium (bi)carbonate. I also think that a lot of people have had mixed results on it.

You might want to research some more on cleaning, Dreamer042 mentioned how to clean, but I would read around a bit and learn the complete method, as well as reading about more teks. I would also try to make that spice as anti-metal as possible, dont smoke til you clean it at least twice..

Check out Whatcha's tek ;)

ok,i saw this tek..it shows a incredible yeld of 17grams out of a pound of mimosa (454g)
so it's more than 3%
anyone tried it? what was your yeld?

Tek shouldn't affect yield that much, (given that they use more-or-less the same or similar solvent) as long as the tek is done properly.

a 3% yield in dmt with just naphtha (ala Watcha;s tek) is an outstanding yield maybe even imaginary. Kind of my-dick-is bigger-than-yours. The regular yields even with good teks are around 1% with naptha and increrase to around 2% when xylene/toluene/limonene are used.

Again, if you perform a tek properly and understand the logic behind each extraction step, the yield is primarily dependent on bark quality

Watchas tek used 908g of MHRB. (He did two 454g in two containers...)

His yield was about 1.9%.

Very good tek though, I might have to try that xD

It is a very nice tek. Wish I found that earlier xD But hey now I know what I'm doing xD

I hardly see anything special with the Whatcha's tek. It is basically an STB with naphtha pulls as usual. If anyone claims it gives better yields he should have to explain what in his tek might be the contributing factor for that. I see none at the moment.

I just like the step-by-step process with pictures, a good read :)

But yea, all teks are roughly the same. Just different materials and amounts.

I've had amazing yields from Whatcha's tek. I think it's because it uses heat baths extensively while other STB teks deem it unnecessary, also it uses less water than most teks while using the same amount of lye. And his sep funnel idea works great and allows me to retrieve far more solvent. First time I tried his tek I don't remember the exact yield but it was around 2%, something like 8-10 grams from a pound of mimosa.
