Terence McKenna's Mega Bad Trip

Similar to what @blig-blug says, the tendency to either idolize or demonize somebody is misguided, and btw it's a hallmark of BPD and similar disorders. But perhaps if someone has been through the idolization process, swinging the pendulum to the other side a bit is necessary to balance out.

I could be called a "humanist," believing in the infinite complexity and beauty of being human, and that no human can ever be perfect. That's why I never resonated fully with the "enlightenment/guru" cultures, the putting certain people on a pedestal.

At the same time, being a subject of fame also seems to me like it requires a hefty dose of narcissism, if not outright NPD. Being highly regarded in a village or tribe where the person and everyone has real living relationships with each other is one thing, but being idolized by millions of strangers - just doesn't feel very wholesome to me. İt encourages fake personas, a charade.
