Testing Gel Tabs?

Cyanescen

Rising Star
so I’ve been looking into how to test gel tabs. Unfortunately much more complicated than blotter. Ive found a couple techniques but they both left me with questions.

This technique is just a way to turn your gel tabs into blotter so the standard reagent tests can be performed. If anyone has performed this before I have some questions about the steps involved.

What kind of container did you use?

For step 8, were you able to easily place this tiny piece of paper on the side of the container, half in the solution half out of the solution without the paper just falling into the container?

Did this procedure actually work for you?

Ok the other technique is here:

The steps are as follows:

  1. Gel medium placed in small amount of water.
  2. Basify gel-water mixture with NaOH.
  3. Gel medium fully dissolves.
  4. Solvent (ethyl acetate) added to gel-water mixture.
  5. Solvent separated off and dropped onto ceramic well plate.
  6. Unheated evaporation of solvent until dry.
  7. Drop field reagents into wells, photograph.
My questions:
Step 1: what’s a “small” amount of water?
Step 2: how much NaOH?

Have you used this technique, and did it work well for you?

Thanks for reading and for any insights you can offer. I wish people would just stick with blotter but this stuff is out there and I’ve had bad experiences with gel tabs before so I’d be damned grateful to know how to properly test it.
“EcstasyData” now drugsdata.org hasn’t been accepting samples for almost year now but if anyone knows of an alternative lab you can send Lucy samples to I’d just as soon spend the money for that rather than going through the above mentioned techniques.

Just get testing reagents from bunk police, if you want to be extra cautious get a tlc kit to see if any other adulterants are mixed in which is listed as their separation kit. I only had to use a tiny piece of the corner of a geltab to get results. Much love❤️

I have testing reagents…a blue gel tab won’t give a false positive?

No the color of the tab won't give a false positive. With the separation kit you isolate the compound(s) from the medium, in this case the blue gel tab. On the chromatograph you can test the spot directly with reagent.
