The "Deem" Thing - It shouldn't bother me, but it does!

Yep, I've only seen the term used here in reference to dealers at festivals until only very recently. "Spice" is an endearing term for most and a fitting one on many levels.

Very nice. This is very much in line with Castaneda's Don Juan in his use of the terms "teacher" and "power" to differentiate between types of entheogens.

Neither DMT, nor it's counterparts should be taken lightly. While the usage in "Dune" isn't precisely accurate (and largely unrelated on most accounts), it does convey the vast scope and magnitude of these substances.

Fuck is probably the most expressive and adaptable word in the english language. Morals and ethics are relative, so that means what ever one feels is a curse word would be relative too.
 
I also don't like it. Urbandictionary says:

In order to be honest, I use it. When I go to sleep, I usually think to myself: ,I´ll get myself a dose of deemster´. Don´t wanna vulgarize the chemical or what, but the other phrase I can use is: ,I´m gonna active my endogenous dimethyltryptamine´. Can You feel the difference?
 
I agree with this word having the wrong connotation etc. Urbandictionary is generally very tongue in cheek though, don't read too much into the definitions from it!!
 
I have/had a friend with benefits who refers to a changa or spiced out joint as a "deemster" and has some other "deem" based slang for a pipe experience. Regardless of the usage, I cringe every time I hear her say it...man does it ruin the mood. It just sounds bad...I feel like the term is indicative of a values structure that is very "other" to how I feel about DMT. I dunno, it isn't THE reason I hang out with her less and less, but it definitely played a part...like I said, i think it's indicative of a different mind set (and given her drugs of choice I have no doubts in this particular example).

Sorry to barge in as a relative newcomer here- I hope my two cents do not offend. Just wanted to point out that the term TEK has been used for years as an acronym for Traditional Entheogenic Knowledge. It seems to be a common misunderstanding that it refers to technique or technology, two terms which I feel do not reflect the true value of these bits of wisdom.

For what it's worth, I am also uncomfortable with the term 'deemsters' and its derivatives. In my mind, this slang is disrespectful to the magic and to our community as it unnecessarily denigrates the meaning of the experience. I feel its usage is akin to calling your God Yo-Yo-Yahweh (if you buy into Judeo-Christian mythology). It's simply not appropriate from my perspective. Just one man's opinion...

I don't really like the word 'drug' because of some of the connotations that word carries. I prefer the word 'medicine' because that is what they are, and it reminds me to respect them as such.

I was at an administration of medication training through my work a few weeks ago and the guy said the difference between drugs and medicine is medicine is prescribed and drugs are abused, I disagreed because the medicines prescribed are still drugs right? Strange one :?

And yes I agree with most folks the term deem is crap, it does give the vibe of some party drug, like ecstasy tablets being called ekkys, smarties etc. Spice doesnt seem to have that connotation but maybe thats because were used to that term.
 
The first time I heard the term Deemer was when I was introduced to my buddy's ganja dealer. He got all excited when he found out I had some and he said, "oh, man can you hook me up?! My brother is a Deemer, and he never seems to have any for me!" He continued to ramble on saying Deemer this and Deemer that, and it took me a minute to make the connection. I immediately felt sort of insulted by the word without even thinking. I told him," What? Deemer? No, call it elf spice or spice because of Terrence Mckenna or just DMT. You don't understand what you're referring to." I then went on to explain the history of its use in Ayahuasca, and helped him understand the profoundness of DMT by sending him to hyperspace. His eyes were like this:shock: when he came back.
 
Spice should be respected and treasured, I don't think deemster is an appropriate or respectful name for such a precious entheogen. I'm sad to see this slang being used to represent Spice... :cry:
