The "Deem" Thing - It shouldn't bother me, but it does!

Migrated topic.
Do we have another word for changa that is used to differentiate between MAOI-enhanced-leaf + plain enhanced leaf?

I heard the word "deemster" once when a guy was talking about buying it at burning man. Hearing stories about bought or sold spice makes me sad.

When I came here (since I've been at the Aya forums for so long :p), to use the word "spice" even felt inappropriate for my personal usage. I understand the respectful connotations it has here, and I never judged or disagreed with its usage, it just felt inappropriate FOR ME.

Though, I had no idea it was from Dune! I watched it and played the computer games when I was a kid... time to revisit!!

Also, I have adapted "spice" occasionally for rapidity of communication (though DMT is shorter... um?).

I prefer "the light"/sacrament...

"Elf spice" just represents the amazing journeys and poetic speech of Terrence McKenna to me, and connotes amazing worlds.

"Jimjam"... makes me think of Jorkest. :) If I said "jimjam," it would be obvious that I was just trying to be as cool as Jorkest, which isn't possible. :p (I love you, Jorkest!!)

Anyway, "deem" and derivatives just feels disrespectful.

Due to an entheogenic relationship with cannabis, I don't ever say "pot," either.

It was a wise, but rigorous initial conditioning from the Aya forums that really impacts me...

I also like Dimitri... (maybe in longing for my invisible/nonexistant Aya brewing boyfriend in another dimension)

I then went on to explain the history of its use in Ayahuasca, and helped him understand the profoundness of DMT by sending him to hyperspace. His eyes were like this:shock: when he came back.

Too, too funny. This little story made my night tonight!

Soulfood, BINGO.

As for "stoner flicks," by and large, I have found the "stoners" portrayed in such a juvenile way, that I can't help but wonder if they are, in a sense, a smear campaign against marijuana smokers everywhere. I feel like some of these movies are an insult to my intelligence--that I, as a cognitively developed person, should find it entertaining that actors portraying cannabis-smoking ADULTS act like incompetent 13 year olds, by virtue of ingesting a sacred substance (which, by the way, is a possibility never even hinted at in these kinds of productions).

This negative media portrayal, again, is why I believe this community can be so hurt and misrepresented by "deem."

Marijuana is not a big joke that makes everyone retarded. The stereotype is tragic. I don't want my personal sacrament to be made another laughingstock or demon of pop culture...

jimjam makes me think of Jorkest too! :d Also... this is slightly off topic, but I think I missed something along the way. When did jimjam change from being the goo that makes up all matter in hyperspace (paraphrased from the Lexicon), to a reference to DMT itself? Does it still have the old meaning, or is it now just a reference to DMT? :?

Peace,

EDIT: Had to add an LOL here, cuz it really did make me chuckle out loud. :)

Below is / was the original meaning of jimjam. Like 88 is suggesting.

Jorkest! We need help! What happened with "jimjam"? :p

I couldn't agree more, sister! I always feel repulsed when people call it "pot". I have never heard anyone use "deemster" for DMT. Another thing that really bothers me, is the widespread use of "acid" instead of LSD. What is up with that? It just does not sound right, sounds like a poison! It is just as disrespectful as "deemster" or "pot". I don't want our sacred entheogens to be referred to in the same manner as crack, smack and speed... Call them by their name.

Just like Imaginary Entheogenic Dream Boyfriend would NEVER call me "bitch." ;)

(I've never let anyone, IRL, either... but there are those that would, I suppose.)

Acid does have strange connotations,
but considering that LSD = Lysergic Acid Diethylamide
it tends to stick. It's it's middle name. 8)

Yeah ۩ - I was thinking the same thing. Acid doesn't really bother me, since that's what it is, but I do prefer to call it "Lysergic". I used to call it "Fry" when I was an ignorant kid (although I did still hold a deep respect for it), which I don't call it any longer.
"Doses" tends to bother me more than "Acid", again because that evokes images of fried out dealers walking around at a festival shouting "Doses, doses, anyone looking for doses?"

As a tertiary thought... Mushrooms don't seem to have a negative slang term that I can think of. Can anyone else?

Mushrooms seem to have established their respect and relevancy as a sacred entheogen. This is interesting. Perhaps it is because mushrooms have the ability to telepathically communicate with all human beings. I sometimes wonder if they have a special little brain in that cute little cap of theirs. :p

Peace!

WOW, could you please expand on the telepathy? I mean, I've experienced it, I was just curious as to how you meant, cuz I recently experienced it on an unparalleled level and your post sent shivers down my spine. I can't think of any bad nicknames and I think that's cuz when people start fucking around with mushrooms (really tryptamines in general) they tend to get their ass kicked, the shrooms demand respect. Although, I will say, Im not a huge fan of the term "shrooming" but i dont really mind it.

But, yea, as to the telepathy thing, I ate 275 mg of mescaline this past sunday and I currently have 3 casings and an experimental monotub casing with cakes anchored to it set up and fruiting in my bedroom. Throughout the whole experience, not only was i inundated with visual similarities to mushrooms, they were in my subconscious. Seriously, I sensed them, heard them calling to me, "saw" them in my minds eye as a result of them trying to communicate. I had never experienced anything on this level before, it was truly amazing. So, like I said, your comment on telepathic mushrooms really resonates with me and I was wondering if you could elaborate.

It depends what you find irritating, as I always found "shrooms" and "mushies" to be closeley coonected to my teenage stoner crowd who used to be poking and giggling at stuff when I'd be laying there with my eyes closed trying to soak up the sounds of the great outdoors.

Also there was a really awful film called "shrooms" :( I never watched it but the trailer seemed dreadful.

I found shrooms/mushies a good way to break the monotony of repeatedly saying mushroom over and over again, but I generally tend to avoid both terms somewhat as it does carry a certain degree of recreational connotation.

Shrooms was a horrible, horrible B horror movie, not worth anyone's time.

This trend is here (e.g. tek for technique/tecchnology)...
Pandora

Sorry to barge in as a relative newcomer here- I hope my two cents do not offend. Just wanted to point out that the term TEK has been used for years as an acronym for Traditional Entheogenic Knowledge. It seems to be a common misunderstanding that it refers to technique or technology, two terms which I feel do not reflect the true value of these bits of wisdom.
Actaully TEK initially stood for Traditional Ecological Knowledge, going waaaaaay back, but i'm sure it was captured for entheogenic use at some point, i still prefer the acronym to thinking of it as an abbreviatiation for technique or whatever.

Damn just typed a post... then hit 'post' button, and now its gone... :(
Bet it is there again when i post this new post. Or maybe not because i just said so.. lol
Anyway..

I totally agree the deemster are noobs.

Some of them will get over this and start using words like entheogen, psychedelic, medicine, force... etc Or otherwise the abreviations will be used for quick and clear communication. The other deemsters will remain ignorant about the true fantastic nature of psychedelics. For them it will be just another sort of dope with some trendy name. They have other ideas about what is 'cool' 8) Most ideas will fade in time.

But yes, it is hard to constantly struggle prejudice (she is one of my bitches).
Whatver i say about whatever, it will always offend someone somehow.
Ain't that a bitch..

Bugs me too. Let's try and keep it off the Nexus. It is about connotation as The Traveler said.

Deem(ster) seems to be overwhelming used by those that see DMT as another way to get high. I've also seen it too much in connection with selling DMT.

some people call them 'boomers', which just sounds ridiculous

some people call them 'boomers', which just sounds ridiculous/quote]

one time while camping out in the mountains, 5g in the tent, i heard what sounded like sonic explosions hundreds of miles away. boom, rumble boom, rumble!

Maybe is because I'm from Italy, and here I've never seen sold Spice (also, I am the first guy I know that has extract it). Although I guess I'm not really the first, the thing is that I've never heard Deem, deemster or similar before =D And can't connect it with DMT.

I usually like the term Spice. I've read all the Dune's books, since I love sci-fi, so I'm really in love with this term. I don't like call it DMT for security reason, also if it may look a bit paranoid, when I talk to the phone, or on msn, ecc. I don't like to say anything about drougs... when I have to, I use Spice.
