Or better still a cave out in the country but not too far from a groceery store. Some people have an urge to do this kind of thing and i can totally relate. The solitude. The wilderness. It can be very appealing. I lived in a cave for a bit when i first moved to Europe. I wanted to challenge myself. A new country and a new language and culture, but first i wanted to feel complete solitude and the ultimate challenge of depending solely on my wits to survive in order to put me into the correct mindset to help me embark on my chosen path.

The holy trinity of living this way is food, fire and water. Everything else is just un needed flotsam that must be tossed in the wind.

Sometimes being alone for any length of time can lead to transcendent states and at other times it can be quite boring. Whenever i got too bored and hungry i was lucky enough to have the house that i had just brought a few hundred metres down the mountain, so i could raid the fridge, cook myself a nice meal and watch the tv (and sometimes when the nights were too cold i would bed down there too).

first of all, evaluate how lost ya wanna get.
find a big city, map it out, find an anon spot , and keep it anon.

ive lived on this island ( city) for about 2 decades non stop.
no one knows my name really, not even my boss.
my landlord is in europe and could care less.
i do biz in cash and anon cards.
all electronics and accounts are in other names or alias.

i take few visitors, friends that have known me for years , have no clue where i live.
my boss just figured out what part of the island i live on last yr.

i use anon transport systems or drivers.
all mail goes to mail drops.

im surrounded by people, but if i simply shut off the phone,
me and the maid are actually quite alone........

and , we still have access to anything we need in minits.

so really , if ya wanna be alone and play alchemy/ grower why commute?
be plain sight, dead center, anon, with supply lines handy.

if you cut off the outside world , and then have to fight for supply lines,
it kinda negates the point.
just stand where your at and ignore the fools around you.


bottom line, the action is always under my feet.
make your world anon and portable also............
( and you guys will pry get more dates if ya dont act like ted kazinski on acid BTW)

I live a similar way IRL, not as extreme, but the same kind of gist.

It's not the same as being away from civilization. I personally like the "camping buzzkill". There is something about being on your own in the wild. Maybe its the lack of things like WiFi signals, ambient artificial light and noise, emotional pollution floating around, or maybe its just the fresh air. If you get deep enough into nature, the dirt is so clean you can eat. Hard to find that in the middle of a city.


Bodhisativa I understand the feeling of wanting to be self sufficient. I imagine it would be a feeling of complete liberation.

Good luck , don't listen to the nay-sayers, its completely doable. Its not easy to go from domesticated to feral, but its definitely been done before.

The whole point of survival is being unsupplied. Or at least supplying yourself from nature.

I want spiritual liberation. I don't care for luxury, whether that is food or amenities. The rougher I live, the happier I'll be.

on one level i can see adventure and danger but with supply.
i travelled the world 3x, and didnt always have a concierge.
anything without porters and cargo,
and khakis ............lacks pizazz.........
^ya want good selfies when on adventure.

id suggest if someone did build a secret cave lab it would be way cool.
but if a tree falls in the woods is there a sound?
but if it wasnt secret, wouldnt it just be supply handicapped?

secret would suggest invisible, and that can be anywhere........
and every lab is always a challenge , no matter where it is.

The main purpose is not to make a lab. It's to make a hermitage, where I will be taking entheogens regularly. That's all.

im just taking the angle that lab extractions in caves is sorta difficult (OP?)

given airflow, fire, and logistic / supply considerations,
id offer a secluded double wide would be a better choice.
( and still not a good choice)

imagine an FAE solvent blowout and losing light in a cave.
one would have to consider the cave environment like a mine.
after a certain point,
youd have to assess it rationally and accept why OSHA exists for industrial working mines.

i will admit, a hermit in a mine with alchemy sounds LOR cool though.

How about this:

1) Find a lineage with a proper murshad/qalandar/lama/guru/teacher
2) Take bayat/initiation/permission/teaching
3) Master the old tek of slip-streaming into the various chrysanthemums at the (stretched) moment of (try never) falling asleep, when you hear the dreadful-roar of this (last) trumpet
4) Continue to learn moar about the uwaisi route....and let the scholars search for the shambala elsewhere.

Very surprised no one has mentioned the fact that lye is incredibly easy to make in the wilderness. All you need is ashes and rain water. It basically (no pun intended) makes itself.

Or that you could easily make vinegar by fermenting fruit. It seems the only reagent for which I don't see an easy way of obtaining is the NP solvent. Maybe there's some plant oil that could work well enough to obtain some product.

All you need is ashes and rain water. It basically (no pun intended) makes itself.

That would not yield lye, but instead a somewhat impure solution of potassium carbonate, K2CO3, also known as potash.

You could try reacting that with burnt or hydrated lime, resulting in a precipitate of lime (CaCO3), and a dilute solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH).

Going from there, it would be very difficult to obtain a concentrated solution or even solid KOH. Slow evaporation will not work, because KOH is very hygroscopic and besides, it would react with atmospheric CO2 and turn back into potash. Boiling the solution into a high concentration is a problem because of the corrosive nature of hot KOH solutions. Unless you happen to be carrying your nickel or platinum boiling pot with you in the wilderness.

there are ways even your great grandma knows for removing oil from water there are basic ashes and acidic fruits
...one just has to be especially 'clever', as they say, and patient..

or use taste test learned artforms to pick the local maoi plant..

Just make sure to ID all botanicals very carefully so this doesn't end like "Into The Wild" with a look alike killing you slowly. Hope to read your story one day after you return, if you decide too anyway.
