The scary thing in a dream you can't or don't see

Dreams are weird, i have the same type of thing relatively regularly....

My wife will say I'm making noises like a coffee percolator or something, and its literally the part in a dream where there is a scary thing (the unknown) which you either can't see or won't see, at which point its almost jerking you awake but you realise you can't move, then the (my) funky breathing routine starts! And i put the coffee on!

This morning's dream was the same, an open door i couldn't quite see around and its scary to look in it, hard to tell if I can just see a glimpse of something, though I've been starting to teach myself to say F*** It and Look into that door, try go through it and towards whatever it is. I felt like I tried quite hard to today to look and get through but ended up just making a few big noises and made my small black therapy animal 🐈‍⬛ jump on the bed and come check I'm ok. The cat literally comes to save me every time, haha.

What does it all mean, will I get through that door to see the scary unknown?

I don't think anyone can really know what that means. But I've had similar dreams. Some of my worst nightmares in my life include seeing the feet of someone behind some kind of stall that's open at the bottom, or the feet of someone hiding behind a (tobacco?) plant. In some of them, I bend down to look at them up close (often against my will, as I already know something bad will happen) and something extremely strong grabs me from the back of my neck and pushes me downwards. Even though nothing more happens, it's terrifying. Even when I only see the feet it's terrifying as well.

With *huasca I've often seen the top of someone's head hiding behind some kind of flat surface. It brought these dreams to mind, but with *huasca it has never been scary, at most a bit mysterious.

Who knows...

If you're aware enough in your dreams to enter that door and manage to do it, let us know! It's interesting.

I'm never aware enough in my dreams so as to control them much. Lately I don't usually remember them, too.
I'll take photos, ok ;)

I've kinda been trying to remember to try it and today was the first time I realised what it was so tried, kinda felt like being booted out of a game, game-over, do not pass Go.

Sounds ever so slightly like sleep paralysis. Also, do you have any signs of sleep apnoea?

Don't know if my story here will be relevant, but when I was a kid I used to get terrified by nightmares quite a lot - that is, until one night I dreamt I was in the bottom of a deep hole (a bit like towards the start of Alice in Wonderland) and there was a locked door for which I had a large bunch of keys but didn't know which key would open the door. There was something of a frantic pressure to do this, since a large gremlin-like monster with long, clawed fingers was approaching me in a most menacing fashion. However, it then struck me how ridiculous this situation was. I laughed at the monster, saying "you can't hurt me, this is just a dream!"
The monster was disappointed that I'd work this out, turned around and walked away, dejected. I then immediately found the correct key on the bunch and opened the door.

Since then I've seldom found dreams to be frightening. Just very occasionally they've proven to be rather disturbing, but really only a couple of times over several decades. When I got through the door, I just remember it being bright on the other side but I think I woke up so that was that.

This reminds me of a goofy sleep paralysis I had once. I was paralyzed in my bed, in the dark, and could see light coming from under the door, along with some psychedelic wavey patterns. Then the light was all obscured, as if someone was standing behind the door. I was terrified and couldn't move. There was a massive bang, and I assumed the door was open, but I couldn't see anything. I felt something on my chest, and willed myself out of the paralysis enough to grab it with my right hand. I had grabbed someone's finger, and completely freaked out, thinking I was being abducted or something. But when I fully woke up, I realized that I must have been sleeping weird, because my entire left arm was completely numb. It had been resting on my chest, and the finger I had grabbed was my own numb pinky finger. 😅

@Transform That sounds like an insightful dream. As with psychedelics, the dream space really does seem to flower once you laugh in the face of your own demons.

No signs of sleep apnea in me @Transform @brokedownpalace10 @universecannon though I definitely get a bit of sleep paralysis when these dreams happen meaning my only form of movement either in the dream or in my body is verbally or breathing.

I'm going to keep trying to get through that door, now I've proved I realise what's happening and have some way of trying to change it.

I guess as most people I've had all manner of dreams, from confused sliding levels of a something like a video game where I'd wake up and want to puke as a kid, to film-like full stories that I wish i could remember and write down.

I don't dream anywhere near as much as I used to since being on Medical Weed.
