VG VaporGenie: How to use, where to get, advantages, etc

Migrated topic.
I read in the instructions we're not supposed to touch the flame to the ceramic because it will cause a soot build up. That being said, I have several times touched the flame to the ceramic and noticed it glowing orange. Those were accidental touches of the flame (kinda hard to judge distance sometimes, right) I have not noticed any ill affect from that. They also say do not use a torch lighter but as we GVG owners know torch works great. I did just notice a couple tiny cracks in my glass top but they are miniscule.

Just cleaned mine again today. I love the way it looks when it's clean. Anybody else think it works "better" when it's clean? That's probably just my perception. I've never tried the recovered material yet. I know they say it's active, not even sure why exactly I'm hesitant to try it.

If your taking 4-5 hits you ain't got the technique down yet, you should be clearing it in a single hit.

Heating the ceramic is fine, I heat it till it glows then start to slowly pull, while I'm pulling I bounce the flame up and down so the ceramic glows then stops, glows then stops. This seems to work a treat.

so your saying i should hold the flame over the ceramic till it starts to glow, screw the top over the dmt, then start to hit it? Im attempting this tonight, and it sounds like a good plan. I just really dont wanna fuck up my new pipe from clogging up the ceramic.

Personally I never purposefully touch the torch flame into the glass top or the ceramic. First a short 4 second or so draw with torch 1-2 cm from glass just til you melt the spice into the mesh. Then I start with the flame tip about 1-2 cm away again and increase/decrease distance to about 3-5 cm or so whilest the vapor builds inside the glass and then turn off the torch and inhale, hold 15 seconds, repeat x2 as needed. Seems like each draw lasts 10-15 seconds or so. That's just what seems to work for me.

good luck tonight

didnt make a breakthrough, i got really close once again though. I remember seeing those familiar visuals along with like a million thoughts at once. that familiar mother-like voice came in and told me how she wishes i would take better care of myself, i remember this happened so fast i came back and thats all i could remember her telling me. yet she told me so many other things about my life and how she has helped guide me along the way. She just expressed that she was sad with what i was doing to myself with the frequency of the drugs i take and i just came back out of the trip feeling guilty. I need a break.

I load up the GVG and put the ceramic filter in so its ready to go, i then heat the ceramic with my ARC til it glows, i then pull slowly letting the flame bob up and down so the the ceramic glows and stops glows and stops.

i use the bounce method because i always have infused herb and never crystals, and if you apply to much heat the herb can catch light.

i advise ignoring the desire to breakthrough and just be happy with the epicness of the experience, a "breakthrough" will come in time. id be quite happy with an entitie telling me things about my life as it sounds awesome.

You will only clog the ceramic with soot if you use a bic and it touchs the ceramic. It is advised that the way to clean a sooted ceramic filter is to heat it with a torch lighter, so heating the ceramic with a torch wont do it any harm at all.

hope that helps

I make the ceramic glow for couple seconds and then raise the flame's tip to about 1-3cm above the edge of the hole. Inhaling until no more vapor comes out. At the end bringing the flame closer to make sure all is gone in single inhalation.

I am not totally sure if this is what you are getting at, but the top of the ceramic is heated when the glass holder is in the chamber of a packed pipe.

Some like to pre-melt the spice onto the mesh, personally I don’t bother.

What are the dis/advantages of the Glass Bat VG vs the Glass VG?

This is the Glass Bat VG:

Does anyone have any experience with both variants?

There is a thread somewhere about this...

Apparently one of the main problems with the Bat is that the vapor gets too hot, all due to the shape and size of the chamber.

The GVG wins

That has never happened to me (with the Glass Bat VG). The vapor only gets too hot if mixed with fresh weed. Adding any cooler herb cools the vapor. I use a tiny amount of tea, which also helps soothe the harsh taste.

If you point the GBVG downwards, then it can get too hot. It should be pointed straight or only slightly inclined downwards.

So I have a classic VG and don't know if I'm using it right. Do I heat the ceramic first or just start inhaling as soon as torch hits the ceramic. The torch has a pretty decent flame and was wondering how close should I put it to the ceramic.

im pretty sure someone will have answered your question in the previous 20 odd pages.

You were totally right found my answer on the same page I just get hasty sometimes. However should there be any residue left with crystals on the screens or should it all be vaporized. Trying to make sure I'm doing this right. Also the past couple of times vaping the spice has made me stumble to the bathroom and vomit. When I was using weed sandwich method this didn't happen. Anyone else get this effect?

Never vomited or even had nausea from the spice. Usually wait a couple hours after eating before traveling, but even when less time has passed between eating and traveling no nausea or vomiting.

Last time I went I had a similar issue, I didn't throw up but I fought it for a good 20 minutes. Extremely nauseated and felt awful, I did eat a few crackers maybe 5-10 minutes before I vaped, I'm thinking that may have contributed to the issue, i'm really unsure of why i've smoked atleast 50 times without ever having any sort of nausea, i've been hesitant since to pick the pipe back up as the naseua was pretty intense. If anyone else has any experience with this or what causes it i'd love to know so as to make sure to avoid whatever causes it!

The vapor genie is such a huge innovation yet such a simple design...I'm considering working with some glassblowers to improve/modify the design as well as possibly some new ones. I use it for so many more things than the spice!

Ok so I finally got my technique perfect. I was using a layer of parsley and like 7 screens when I got the classic VG. For some reason this way didnt feel nearly as strong as my previous ash weed sandwich method. So I tried a different route with using a layer of ash with only 3 screens. And boy did this work. On the classic VG the ceramic doesn't light up until I start inhaling so I just get it nice and hot for a few seconds and then inhale slowly bringing the torch back and forth to the ceramic. I go back for one more toke but I don't even think I need to because I feel like I've vaped it all in the first hit. 30 mg has never brought me so far. I don't hear much talk about the classic VG so I wanted to give it a thumbs up. I haven't used the GVG but Id be afraid I would drop it easily just trying to put it down after a hit. If you are on a budget the classic VG is excellent but takes a couple tries to get it right because your spice isn't visible.
