WHEN can i begin sending pm's to people OTHER than moderators?
do i have to make like 50 posts or something before i am able to do this?

You have to get promoted to be able to send pms to other members

There is no hard and fast number. When you get upgraded to full member status is up to the moderators (although it helps for current members to suggest promoting you).

Basically, if you make quality posts and contribute to the the discussion in accordance with the rules you will likely be promoted sooner rather than later. A well thought out introduction essay is always a good idea as well.

It helps to get promoted if:
* A full member vouches for you
* You keep making valuable posts, this can be experience reports, helpful answers & questions, literally all contributions!
* You write an essay why you want a full membership, this essay doesn't have to be long or without spelling errors, it just has to be genuine
