GREETINGS!

In my pursuit of knowledge via the use of spice and other ents I have had a hunger to learn as much as I possibly can about the psychedelic experience. Although I understand that the most profound lessons come from within our own personal experiences, I still enjoy reading about other peoples perspectives on this topic. I'm sure that most of you Nexians are pretty well read in this area as far as books and other reading material, and I was wondering if you all wouldnt mind passing on some of your favorites. Any good suggestions? I'm especially interested in things that directly relate to DMT and/or texts that have more of a spiritual undertone. Thank you all for taking a few minutes to pass on your wisdom!

Also, I have one other question for some of the more experienced people here. I'm still pretty green when it comes to my journey with spice. I have one sub breakthrough and a handful of low dose sessions under my belt (which I know isnt much at all) along with a fair amount of trips on other substances such as K, LSD and Psilocybin. Although I consider myself a person with moderate experience with psychedelics, I still struggle with feelings of trepidation and fear when working with the spice. I know that this is a pretty common thing when dealing with spice but I was wondering what would be some advice on how to let go and not let myself freak out when Im not in total control of the situation. Im not even sure what it is Im afraid of b/c in the end I know Im going to be OK. Does it get easier/less scary to venture into the spice world with time and experience? Or is this fear going to always be there? I feel a calling to pursue my path here so I wont let that fear stop me but how do I humble myself enough to completely let it go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im grateful to be a part of such an amazing community, you guys really care and the wisdom in the place is over-flowing! Thanks again!

Keep on passing the hat my friends,

T

In my opinion, "DMT: The spirit Molecule" by Dr. Rick Strassman would be the perfect book for you. Its about the doctors expeience with and experiment he was conducting in the early 60's. The experiment consisited of about 50 volunteers who were all administered different amounts of nn-dmt(and possibly other types, cant remember) ranging from .04-.6mg (ish). Along the way, he keeps a journal of all the patients experience. He(they) does a great job of explaining how those lucky few felt after each administered dose. There is also mention of other drugs such as lsd and shrooms. Plus, his fustrating encounter with the us government and their discontent about the experiment.

I learnt ALOT from that book, and I hope you do too I think im gunna give it another read through starting tomorrow hahah!

Also two others worth checking out.

Tibetian Book of the dead - unsure of the author
The Psychadelic Experience - Timothy leary

Hope this helps you on your journey:)

Hey Zoot-

Thanks for the rec's...I've flipped through DMT: The Spirit Molecule a handful of times and read alot about Strassman and his research etc... Does sound like a good read, think Im gonna give it a go. Read Learys book already on the psychedelic experience, def enjoyed it. Also read a couple of McKennas books: True Hallucinations and Food Of The Gods... reeeaaally really enjoy reading McKennas stuff. What an amazing person...but im sure everyone here is already well aware of this :)

Peace

Howdy. For your first question, I highly recommend James Oroc's Tryptamine Palace. It's mainly about the author's experiences with 5-Meo-DMT and the intellectual search for truth his experiences trigger, but it includes a bit about DMT as well. To warn you, he unfairly dismisses DMT as not entheogenic, and seems overly obsessed with 5-Meo-DMT, but I have not had the chance to interface with 5-meo-DMT, and he insists that people who try it are consistently floored by its effects. Despite this he's got an incredible writing style, incredible stories (New Zealanders usually do), and connects the subject with broader currents in mysticism/religious studies and modern physics. It's well worth checking out.

For your second set of questions, I don't know good advice for being less frightened as one goes in. I usually do a sitting meditation and some yoga asanas prior to blast-off, and lately I've been calming my heart rate down before entry. Some of the people on here recommend sitting in a half-lotus posture to help with calming and receptivity.

After 60-80 tryps I have a respectful fear of Spice. Up until very recently I only had positive experiences with it, but after accidentally inhaling a huge dollop of burnt Spice (which is like psychedelic crack mixed with chlorine gas) I've been more cautious. What frightened me that time was not the Spice, but being convinced that I'd just inhaled some awful contaminant that wasn't supposed to be in it, while in the midst of a strong and wild tryp. This experience led me to the Nexus, where I learned that it wasn't contaminated, it was just burnt Spice. I don't know what I did differently to burn the Spice, but was told to look into other ways to partake of Spice without the use of nasty chemicals...
It's very powerful, and I think a respectful fear of it is an appropriate emotion going into it; some of the more experienced members have agreed with this in other posts.

Welcome astroNOMADical.

I don't know of anything that helps with the anxiety other than experience and changa. Also, the body load of low doses can result in much more anxiety than actual breakthroughs, so keep that in mind.

Thank you lysergify and ragabr!

Lysergify, the book you mentioned sounds like something right up my alley, I'm definetely going to look it up. Sounds like exactly what I've been looking for. I wonder why the author is so partial to only 5-meo? I have personally never had the chance to try it yet but I cant imagine anyone who has smoked DMT would then be able to say it doesnt qualify as a entheogen??

And as for both comments about the anxiety/fear just being a pretty normal thing when working with the Spice...I guess I will just have to bear that in mind. I will try sitting the half-lotus posture as I have seen that mentioned here many times. Also, about the low dose body load- that makes sense too. The one time when I had a sub-breakthrough it was so crazy that I didnt really have time to process any fear while I was in my trip, only time I was nervous was right before I smoked. I will keep my respects of it high and my intentions good natured and thats all we can do I guess. I havent really even had a scary experience yet but I can very well see how easily things could get out of control and the fear of the unknown is always the scariest, at least for myself. So I appreciate all your input, thank you! Keep it comin'!

peace,

T

I haven't read strassman or oroc (on my list), but they are the only two specifically about spice (don't know if strictly speaking 5meo is considered spice) that i am aware of, but for less well known accounts of dmt-like journeys try dan capenter's "psychonAuts guide to the inner landscape" (dxm), and "peopled darkness" (salvia). I can't remember the author's name and i think it has been rereleased with a different title, but a quick amazon search will point you in the right direction. The self aware universe (amit gotswami i believe) is another good one, but more about the nature of consciousness, the universe and quantum mechanics than specifically addressing the entheogenic experience, as it is called.

Happy reading!

While this is more for fun, I find listening to old Terence Mckenna lectures a very worthwhile thing to do if you're interested. The most comprehensive lecture series on youtube that I've found are from his "Tree Of Knowledge" weekend dealio- put in "Terence Mckenna Tree of Knowledge", and start listening to the vids that have a picture of shrooms. I think in about parts 12-16 or so he talks a lot about DMT, and although it's less strictly fact-oriented than many sources it's a great source of philosophy and flavor.

jbark- thanks man, i havent heard of any of those books so im anxious to look into them. all suggestions are def going down on my list. ps- i see that you have moved on to the ranks of being an enlightened member, congrats.

bananaforeskin- haha, im sorry that name is hilarious, love it. anyhow, its funny you mentioned that about terence mckenna lectures because i love to search them online sometimes myself. i especially like the one about "culture is not your friend" and a couple others that i cant recall at this time. i once stumbled upon a t mckenna website where u could stream audios of all his recorded lectures...i cannot for the life of me remember what site that was but i will look into it again and if found i will pass the linke along. gonna check out the "tree of knowledge" series tho- thanks friend.

Sure, you will not be disappointed in reading Tryptamine Palace. Oroc says that anyone who smokes 5-Meo-DMT, even experienced entheogen users, will understand what he means when he says it is the only "true" entheogen. I understand it is very powerful, but don't know why that makes the obviously entheogenic experiences of some DMT and psilocybin partakers any less powerful. He also states that high doses of DMT are quite similar to 5-meo-DMT; the methoxyl group at the 5 position in 5-meo-DMT merely allows the molecule to cross the blood-brain barrier more quickly. I've found everything he says very applicable for DMT and other experiences, and just ignored his bias towards 5-meo.

Good luck to you...
