Clarifying the DMT experience

I've never tried DMT myself, but I'm immensely curious about it. I have tried LSD, psilocybin, and salvia. My question to those who have used DMT is: how does DMT compare?

From the reports I've read, general consensus is that DMT is the diamond of hallucinogens and psychedelics. There isn't anything more powerful, and it remains completely safe. My questions is more pointed towards the degree to which one achieves a legitimate mystical experience, not the basic information on DMT that I can find on Erowid and compare on my own. In Roland Griffiths's psilocybin experiments at John's Hopkins University, he used a scale called the Pahnke-Richards Mystical Experience scale. Does DMT fall in line with this scale?

The Pahnke-Richards scale has seven domains:
1) Internal Unity (pure awareness; a merging with ultimate reality)
2) External Unity (unity of all things; all things are alive; all is one)
3) Transcendence of Time and Space
4) Ineffability and Paradoxicality (claim of difficulty in describing the experience in words)
5) Sense of Sacredness (awe)
6) Noetic Quality (claim of intuitive knowledge of ultimate reality)
7) Deeply-felt Positive Mood

Also you cant really say if there is something weaker or powerful than it because it works totally different than any other random drug out there.

Cid,Mushies,Peyo all work differently then spice.
In a spice experience....something is happening in a crystal clear image of pure knowledge per second.
Tho, Salvia is a trance. It is unlike any other drug and the female version of dmt(the oppisite experience), I would say.

It's most similar to psilocybin - in fact I've read reports of people seeing entities on high doses of mushrooms as well. Following the quick DMT "flash", the comedown (which lasts another 5-20 minutes) is somewhat similar to a psilocybin trip.

I've only used DMT a few times, and while I find it very amazing it has not been all that helpful with analytical things and self improvement the way psiloybin is. The trip comes on so fast that I can't really plan what I'm going to think about like I can with mushrooms. Also, since the trip lasts for such a short time (even the longer comedown) there is not much time to ponder things in detail under its influence.

SWIM finds it extremely different than psilocybin. Might be similar to smoked psilocybin, but not oral in SWIM's opinion.

While many can will tell you to try and breakthrough the first and everytime SWIM loves smoking 15-25mg.

it is very visual and very comfortable and since SWIM has spent so much time in that sub-breakthrough state that after a hectic over-breakthrough on 50+mg he was very re-assured when the visuals and mind-state were extremely altered and intense but in his familiar comfortable territory he didn't freak out despite the peak being super crazy.

SWIM's advice is to start low and work your way up, he did it and when he brokethrough the first time it was quite scary so he went back to "practicing" the low doses and is now much more comfortable in hyperspace.

Many will disagree, but SWIM had great luck with this approach

q21q21 I agree with elphologist1 in that the experience has the hallucinogenic visual 'curvyness' of a psilocybin or lsd trip, but that is just tryptamines generally.

Kartikay: Smoke some and stop wondering!! I waiting two, three years from reading about dmt to actually smoking it and then once I did, I wondered "WHY THE HELL DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS!?" LOL

A little of my day I spent researching the neuro-chemical interaction.

Yeah, I have to just try it. Even my heroic doses of LSD don't really compare to the breakthrough. Tomorrow's mission is to research how to make it. Before I start reading up on it, I'm hoping someone can answer one question: How long does the process take, from start to finish, to create the spice? I'm lucky, I've found myself in a period of time where I have 4 months until my job starts, and a private place to do any synthesis I need. I'm pretty much free to focus on this.

Everyone will state different time scales, but for me, with all equipment and ingredients at the ready, I'd
say about 3 days until I have crystal formation and then another 2 days to let the crystalsdry - though I knowingly use a heavy solvent hence why it takes this long. One thing I think everyone aswell as myslf
will stress is to be patient and don't rush through any steps it'll be worth it in the end!

If you are in a hurry, you can do STB with naptha. I literally was able to smoke it the same day I got the materials. I then took more time with the next extraction and got better quality and yields. But those are the only two extractions I've done and have never tried other methods besides STB.

One thing I will say though - freeze out your crystals instead of evaporating the naptha. I did that the second time and the product was much less harsh on my lungs.

I've taken salvia so I'll briefly compare the two...This is my personal opinion of the two experiences:

Salvia:
- No noticeable colours or 4D shapes
- Definitely some entities
- Less time distortion, but more spacial distortion...lighter became a door knob, and bong became a wall of doors to other realities
- Confuses me, can't make sense of anything, forget that I've taken salvia at all, become someone else
- No real separation from the body, or at least not noticeable, no body high
- By the time I exhale, I forget to close my eyes...faster than dmt for me

DMT:
- Complete body separation, total sensory hallucination at higher doses
- Still able to reason well, still conscious of myself
- Colours, complex shapes, entities, other dimensions
- More easy to relate to...(I'll explain)

In a nut shell, I find DMT is easier to learn from than salvia. The main difference in the whole experience is the removal from the body. With DMT, I am removed from my body, and transported to somewhere deep and peaceful or chaotic / beautiful. The room is phased out of my knowledge then the trip takes me wherever...Salvia, I don't even notice the transition. I'll think nothing is happening while experiencing memories that aren't my own. Then suddenly I'll realize they aren't my own and be completely surprised how I came to those conclusions.

At one point, there was a student sitting behind me and she was asking me to show the teacher something. Then I realized I wasn't in a classroom, I wasn't sitting at a desk, and there was no student behind me. DMT on the other hand, would materialize a classroom around me, sit me in a desk, and then I'd notice a student appear behind me.

I'm not sure if this helps at all but it's the best comparison I could think of. I think I would say DMT is more linear, but salvia just ports you all over the place.

jacetea, that last bit is probably the best explanation I've ever heard. Is there any way you could expand on what you mean by "experiencing memories that aren't my own."? I've never heard salvia described as experiencing someone else's memories. Why is it you believe that they are memories?

I agree dimitri. Smoking salvia has always given me a negative experience. Dipping salvia, on the other hand, has always given me great results.
