Well the intestines has a ''mind'' of its own.

The Enteric Nervous System: The Brain in the Gut has a good description of the system.

Usually, when we smoke dmt and or maoi we are mainly only affecting the energy center inside the head (brain). When we take oral dmt/maoi it targets the brain and enteric nervous system. So when only smoking, we are not activating a separate very important subsystem that is integral to our psycho/phsycial/spiritual functioning. I can't think of a good analogy for it, but it's not usually beneficial to only activate one system inside of a highly complex, extremely interconnected bio spiritual computer.

Now i'm not saying that it is always better to take pharma. It depends on the person, because sometimes it is necessary to only activate one energy center. (the brain) (by smoking).

But by activating multiple energy centers, it allows for energy to flow between them smoother and make stronger connections, allowing for a more integrated whole.....which really is what we are after, even if we don't realize it. Unifying all the systems in the psycho-spiritual biocomputer...aka humans. And by unifying, it implies purifying....removing the blockages and obstacles that keep the human from being ''whole''

I question this: when you smoke DMT, it enters your bloodstream and gets distributed all over the body, including the vessels and veins around your stomach and enteric system. Just because the compound isn't passing from the GI tract to the vascular system that way doesn't mean that those nerves aren't getting exposed to the DMT. They're just not the first to get hit.

The only way you could localize the DMT to just your brain would be to inject it directly into your cranium.

The neurons of the enteric system are part of the lining of the intestines, so I think it is nearly impossible, if not completely impossible for dmt in the blood to enter the intestines. Maybe if you had an ulcer, a little bit would get through?

Unless those neurons are drawing oxygen directly from the digestive system (which seems unlikely), then they must be fed by the circulatory system, which will contain DMT after you've smoked it. We know DMT readily diffuses across various membranes (including the BBB), so I imagine it would find it's way to the enteric serotonergic neurons, eventually.

The question is -- do these neurons have the right 5-HT receptors?

I think I will start a new thread about the points we both bring up at some point when I a bit better researched on the matter. Although knowing things like how much/how quickly dmt crosses the bbb is going to be impossible to know for sure.

But yes, my research has shown me that there are 5ht2 receptors in the enteric nervous system.
