Rising Star
I just had this idea and I want to write it down. I haven't tired it yet.
Take 100g syrian rue seeds and use a slap and chop to chop them up instead of grinding.
Then put them in a 2 liter pop bottle with 1250ml vinegar(5%).
Shake well everytime you think of it for as long as you can stand.
Get 2nd 2L pop bottle and cut off the bottom.
Drill holes in the cap like five on a dice.
Put a coffee filter over the top of the bottle.
Carefully screw the cap on.
Fill the bottle with loosely packed pillow filling.*
*NOTE. Cotton balls would probably bog down. There is a type of shredded plastic that could be perfect if it is:
1. Not toxic and is resistent to vinegar and syrian rue.
2. It does not bog down therefore it creates available surface area for sediment.
3. What is the best filter medium?
Pour distilled water or vinegar or even warm IPA through as if it is a large funnel. Rinse throughly.
Now take your bottle of chopped syrian rue seeds and shake it real good then slowly pour it through the filter/funnel.
*NOTE: You could let it settle and pour it slow at first but the idea is to make a filter that can efficiently get all the water/acid out. So i say shake. Need yeild testing to determine most effective way.
It should all go through? Can't wait to try.
Then do further extraction.
NOTE. Could build different grades of filters with differnent materials.
Loads of common materails would be good filters as long as they create massaive amounts of surface area for sediemnt/deposit.
Next question is: Can more acid water be rinsed through this kind of setup?
Conclusion: This has the potenial to speedup filtering and save time on decant/waiting for things to settle. Just an idea I want to test. I would love feedback about using a column filter. Only for filtering when you want to save the liquid.
