What is your favorite mantra and how has it worked for you?

I'm getting into chanting.

My favorite one is "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo".

I learned it in a documentary about Tina Turner. She left and overcame an abusive relationship with Buddhism and chanting. She realized her dream and became a star in her own right and into her 50s.

It is dedicating yourself to the Lotus Sutra. The Lotus Sutra is about learning the laws of the universe and realizing your true self. It is for manifestation and major transformation.

I do it on harmalas and ganja and I feel a lot of shifting. It is very transformative. When chanting it it has gotten to the point where it feels like I am saying a blessing over myself.

There is also a two hour YouTube of her chanting it, which I enjoy.

*I am interested in learning more chants. What is your favorite mantra and how has it worked for you?*

P.S.
I have also been doing Qi Gong daily and it has been lifechanging. I will make a post about that eventually...

Oh nice! I did not know that about Tina Turner. Learn something everyday.

I chant sometimes when I meditate. I do all the chakra chants, bottom to top , I visualize the colors and imagine the chakras spinning. I also will chant 'Om Mani Padme Hum', which means 'the jewel is in the lotus'. 🪷 It has always been important to me to be compassionate and kind. This mantra is a reinforcement of those ideals in my mind.

Go to the heart <3

I really like doing it. It feels good.

Perhaps I should learn some new chants as well. I like to know the meaning of what I am chanting so I can concentrate on the symbols of their meaning. I think that is important.

Happy Chanting!

ॐ भूर् भुवः स्वः तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥

oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ tat saviturvareṇyaṃ
bhargo devasya dhīmahi dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt..

Earth, atmosphere, heavens.
We meditate on the sacred light of the effulgent source.
Let that inspire our thoughts.

Aum Tryambakaṁ Yajāmahe
Sugandhiṁ Puṣṭivardhanam
Urvārukamiva Bandhanān
Mṛtyormukṣῑya Mā’mrtāt

Mahamrityunjaya mantra

Calms and centers me, even in the midst of hard psychedelic storms and emotional breakdowns.

It is said to extend life and protect oneself.

This particular version, sung by Hein Braat is the most soothing and calming.

Dr Google says:
"The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, also known as the Great Death-Conquering Mantra, is a verse from the Rig Veda (RV 7.59.12) that is addressed to Tryambaka, an epithet of Rudra, who is identified with Shiva in Shaivism. The mantra's name combines "Maha" meaning great, "Mrityu" meaning death, and "Jaya" meaning victory, signifying a victory over death. It is believed to offer healing, protection, and the removal of the fear of death. Chanting this mantra is thought to create divine healing vibrations, promoting physical, mental, and emotional health."

Meaning:
Aum, We Worship the Tryambaka (the Three-Eyed)
Who is Fragrant (as the Spiritual Essence), Increasing the Nourishment (of our Spiritual Core)
From these many Bondages (of Samsara) similar to Cucumbers (tied to their Creepers)
May I be Liberated from Death (Attachment to Perishable Things), So that I am not separated from the perception of Immortality (Immortal Essence pervading everywhere).

Thanks!

Kudos!

Happy spring equinox everyone!!!☀️

Good works Jungle! Chanting can be very powerful in terms of transcending the mundainity of the mind. One of my favorites is from the Upinishads . . . "That Thou Art, Thou Art That . . . Thou Art Brahman, I am Brahman." It is best embodied by reciting each segment timed with your breathing (e.g., <inhale> that thou art, <exhale> thou art that . . .) The unification of the chant opens the heart and reveals the interconnectedness between all things, spaces, and places. In Lak'ech!

"and then I ___"
it works very well.

seems to be the only way I can control my actions under DMT / Lucid Dreams. Appears to have a paranormal influence "irl" as well but my experiences there are minimal. Anyway this self narration thing works well. Lets me fight entities among other things...

I actually found this by doing divination wanting better control of my dreams. Directed me to a poorly translated book of Daoist shadow magic that quite literally said to do that for all sorts of things while dreaming. Clearly this has been around for some time. Weird that I have only found it in one other place so far. But I don't look around anymore. Like I said it also works under DMT but it's sometimes hard to have enough awareness to be able to use it there.

I have a very good sentence that, while not really a mantra, I use in challenging moments, when I'm having deep aversion to or fear of doing something. It's "can you do it happily?" Because if I'm choosing to do it, then I may as well do it happily. It's my choice whether to be satisfied or unsatisfied while doing it.

This approach is recommended by one of the few people that I look up to as a spiritual teacher, and has worked very well for me. The point is not the literal sentence itself, the point is the mindset. But the sentence serves as a reminder and facilitates the shift.

There is a difference between mantras and affirmations.
Affirmations focus on meaning and aim to change one's state based on that meaning.

Mantras, on the other hand, are Sanskrit phrases that use sound to produce a change of state.
While they do have meaning, it's not as important as the sound itself. Sanskrit is considered a divine language that rishis
downloaded from higher realms (most likely with the aid of Soma).

Mantras work directly with one's energy, similar to pranayamas. My favorite one is:
Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram
🙏

Yes, I know it's not exactly a mantra. I wouldn't say it's an affirmation either, I personally don't like or use them. Affirmations usually consist on stating a desired reality in the hopes of attracting or believing it. The sentence I mentioned is more like a challenge, and if followed by "yes, I can do it happily", it's not an affirmation, it's just a fact. Yes, I actually can. If I make an affirmation like "all my projects are successful and abundance comes to me" it's a wish, not reality. That's the difference, as I see it.

I have never used mantras purposefully, although I often have "om nama shivaya" in my mind due to a song. Based on your description (that the important part is the sound), it sounds close to music. Have you experienced some kind of effect from them? It does sound plausible to me that certain patterns could facilitate specific mind or body states.

I was just generally stating a difference for people to understand. My reply came after yours just by chance [or not] ;)

Yeah, mantras do work, especially within the medicine space. Singing Kirtan under medicine is my preferable way of conducting a ceremony.
Firstly, you have a red thread throughout your ceremony if needed. Secondly, mantras work on our energy body and guide the experience, similar to icaros.

Krishna Das has some long treks (20+ min), and they work wonders. I'd advise trying it out at least once.
Ram Ram 🙏

Had to stop myself because I need to go to bed but as I subvocalized while reading this it hooked my consciousness and repeated about 10 times before I finally quit. That was interesting and unexpected. Will need to play with that some more.

I use this track (1h 38min) all the time in my ceremonies. It is just one mantra with some invocations to the divine and a dedication in the end.
The amount of blessings in it is beyond belief. Try it out if you feel some connection. It is on Spotify too.
