Hello,
I wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this tek, this is great information and very straightforward. This is the first time a home-brew psychedelic has actually worked for me. I tried this method and got the golden liquid as a result:
I noticed these seems to be a bit of a film on the top:
The smell is part vodka, along with another smell I'm not familiar with (I wouldn't call it a sweet smell, kinda has a chemical smell to it). How would you all describe what the smell should be? My concern is that there is calcium hydroxide in there. Am I being overly paranoid?
Here is what I did:
50g mimosa hostilis root bark
500mL of vodka
I put it on a magnetic stirring hot plate at 60C for 5 hours
in the last hour or so, a significant amount of the brew evaporated off leaving me with about 100 mL
I mixed calcium hydroxide into it, I didn't note how much I used but after a couple hours only about 1 or 2 mL of golden liquid had separated. I decided to double the volume by adding more vodka and let it sit for a while and in the mean time I started another batch. After some time, a good amount of liquid separated from the calcium hydroxide and I was able to use a pipette to remove it.
For the second batch, I kept it on the hotplate for 3 hours 45 minutes, and kept the temperature between 45 and 60 C. About 50 to 100 mL evaporated. I filtered with a steel mesh filter followed by coffee filter, leaving me with 300 mL. I didn't add any calcium hydroxide, just left it as the red brew.
I consumed the equivalent of 4g mhrb of the golden extract with 7g Syrian rue. After an hour or two I felt a definite body high but not a full trip. At this point I was nervous about the chemical smell of the vodka dmt extract and wanted to wait to ask you all about it. I drank about 75 mL of my second brew, equivalent to 25g mhrb and took some more Syrian rue.
I had a powerful body high come on, followed by visuals (the things in the room morphing around). I got super nauseated and threw up after about an hour. The peak was very challenging for 2 hours, I had to focus on my breathing and keep myself calm. After that it mellowed out and I sat on my couch for 4 or 5 hours with my cat as I came down.
I don't ever want to consume the raw brew with the tannins again haha, so next time I want to just use the golden extract. Are there any other steps I can take to make sure it is safe to consume?
edit: I just found this link about washing the solvent:
You may indeed have NaOH in your final product! When mixing the “soup” (more properly called the aqueous solution/phase) and the nonpolar solvent, (called ‘organic solvent/phase’), inevitably some of the highly basic aqueous solution will suspend itself in the organic phase, and will remain even after separation of the two phases. This dangerous substance is easily removed by water washing the organic phase. This technique is standard lab procedure, and every chemist of every level should be in the habit of doing this.
After the extraction is done, heat the solvent to around 40 C on a...
I think I will try this with the sodium carbonate as
@Transform suggested
Thanks again to everybody who has contributed to this.
